Re: Project Fast Spyder
Sweet looking great. Drop that engine in and be done with her.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Just brought my engine to the machine shop last night. Will be done in the next couple weeks!
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Took a close look at the AC condenser and there is a circle of oil on both side. Which means that oil in the AC system got out and that means the it lost some charge too. So I may have to remove the AC :(
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
lookin good
I did the same thing to my carpet it fell down putting in the bracket that I use for a drive shaft loop with my 1 pice shaft and you can only use spyder carpet sence it is diffrent than a hard top. |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
I know, It sucks! I just cut out all the burnt part and cut a piece out from under the front seat and set it in its place(just for now til I can afford new stuff)
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Small update:
-Mind is 90% made up and the AC is coming out -Bought some AN wrenches so I can finish my fuel system -Replaced my slip yoke yesterday on the driveshaft -A pretty polished intake manifold is coming in the mail... :) |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Here are some more pics.
Magnus http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/500/CIMG1335.JPG A/C Removed(red circle is of oil spot where it was leaking. Both sides have it) http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/500/CIMG1336.JPG Driveshaft installed http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/500/CIMG1337.JPG When I put the driveshaft up the rear bracket was off by like a 1/2". Dont know why because the bracket could only be welded in one place. Anyways I fab'd up some brackets to make it work. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/500/CIMG1340.JPG http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/500/CIMG1338.JPG |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
the oil spot in your condenser means all of your charge was lost as soon as the hole happened. Refrigerant is much less dense than oil, and if the oil came through, that means the refrigerant was carrying the oil as it exited the hole.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
The system still had a charge on in it. Im assuming the hole was tiny and when the high side pressure went up it let it leak past.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Hmm. did you ever recharge it? Usually with an oil spot that big, it has either been leaking for a long time with frequent recharges, or is a leak that let everything go at once.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
I am beginning to hate you! Just kidding. Nice going on the spyder. Hopefully it will be done by summer right.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
It was never recharged. Either way its out and forgot about.
It will hopefully be done soon. All Im waitin for is the engine from the machine shop. |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Lookin good man!
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Huh, weird that it was never recharged and still had a charge with that kind of an oil spot. Anyways, nice looking project :)
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Well I called John Gosh yesterday and he said the crankshaft is still not back. He says if everything goes well he will have it assembled by next weekend. Thats all Im waiting on now.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
damn. Hope it all works!

Re: Project Fast Spyder
So all you got to do is drop the engine in. Good luck man and please more pics ... This project is looking sweet.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
I cant for the life of me find that camera. But pretty much drop the engine in, finish up the wiring(need engine in). and hopefully everything works. Im crossing my fingers that the drivetrain components all work good.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Good choice using John Gosh!! I did all my machine work through him as well. :)
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
He is very good. He already did my head last year. But the crank had to be sent out to get re nitride(or something like that) coated because in needed to be ground down 10 under.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
I had mine done like that also. It took a long time. Different place though.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Installed my Aeromotive fuel filter and FPR. Here are some pics.

Re: Project Fast Spyder
You need a mechanical Fuel pressure gauge and you need to mount it outside the cabin on the hood. That would look best.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
So how is everything looking? Get your motor back yet?
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
No motor yet. Im getting kinda disapointed its been so long. 4 Weeks for machine work? Besides that everything is good.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Um...an update please? But let me guess still no motor?
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
WRONG! Picked up the motor on tues night!
Put the rear main seal on and the front cover and water pump. Went to put the oil pan on and its the wrong one. The oil pan that came off the engine is currently getting a 10AN bung welded on for the oil return. Will get pics of the engine ASAP! |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
How can you possibly work in a garage thats that messy? Otherwise it looks great.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
I know, Its bad! But honestly I know where everything is.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
thats how it always is.... just wait for reassembly. Mine wasnt half as bad and I had some things missing.... finally found them a month later :(

Re: Project Fast Spyder
Little Update:
Got my gauges installed(not 100% wired up yet tho) I think It makes it look nice! Top-AEM Wideband Gauge Middle-AEM Boost Gauge Bottom-AEM Serial Gauge http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1409.JPG http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1410.JPG |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
You are a baller.
Looks nice. It will be badass when it is finished. |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Finally got some time to work on it again. Today I put in the engine, tranny, tcase, exhaust, finished fuel and did some more wiring under the hood.
I hit a snag when I lined up the intercooler piping but I turned it around and fliped it upside down and it will work(kinda ghetto tho. Here are some pics... http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1456.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1457.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1458.JPG http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...m/CIMG1459.JPG I had that bung welded in so you couldnt see it... so much for that! |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Looks like you are almost ready to rock.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Yah Im hoping soon. Still need to wait on some parts(slave cyl and battery). All I need to do now is
Finish wiring Finish installing gauges Put interior back in Put in driver axle Bleed the brakes and clutch Install fuel injectors Load map on EMS and start her up There is alot more stuff I need to do but I cant think of it right now. |
