Yeah, it must be burned into your memory by now! Maybe this will be a little incentive for you and you will get that thing done this winter/spring. Show him some progress pictures and make him jealous, Vicious.

Come on Shane, put those other 3 pistons in that block and let's go. :3gears:

HKS 272/272 cams have been degreed in and I should be putting this bad boy between the frame rails Saturday. For anybody wondering about how far off the 2.0L cam gears are compared to the 2.4L gears, it is about 4.5-5 deg. I dialed the cams in and then made a new alignment mark on each gear with an engraver at the adjustable timing marks. I also took a straight edge across both gears and engraved new alignment marks where the gears come close together for future timing belt replacements.

Badass!

Raptor 02-12-2004 12:06 AM

Looks great Mike! Are you going create some form of timing cover for it or run it open? Just curious.

v8klla 02-12-2004 12:36 AM

Looks sweet, what turbo will you be running on that thing?

Chris

I actually plan on running the timing belt & gears fully covered. With my luck something would eventually fall down in there if I left it open. Might remove the top section for car shows, maybe. I like the black 2g covers better than the new grey 1g covers I bought, but I was told the 2g covers wouldn't fit the 1g design.

I'm going to be using my VPE GT3056W (TO4E/.56trim/GT30/7cm) turbo. Should get full boost with it by 2600rpm on this engine. If I decide I need a bigger turbo I will probably get the FP3065.

Raptor 02-12-2004 11:33 AM

Hmmm, I was pretty sure that you couldn't use either since the block moves the head up 6MM, If they were used they would probably at least need to be extended a bit I think. That was why I was asking, and because I didn't see any on there at the moment. I knew you were smart enough to run something rather than going without.

Time for a custom QPR timing cover ;) :woowoo:

I think it will be ok. The seperation point of the top and bottom half meet at the deck level. I'll let you know tonight after I try to put them on. ;)

Yeah, maybe an upper cover with a clear window in it to show off them inner workings and gears?

1ViciousGSX 02-12-2004 10:58 PM

The 1g cover works great, all I did was to enlarge the holes on the upper plates that attach to each side of the head so they would drop down a little bit and I was able to get all the bolts in.

Here's where the difference really shows with just a little gap.
http://www.unix-networking.com/Vicio...t%20cover5.JPG

Now that's the good news, the bad news is that shortly after taking the pics, I tried to improve the way it lined up on the p/s pump side of the head and cracked the lower cover. :uh: So tomorrow I'm going to try the 2g covers, should work just as well since everything seems to line up great. I'll let you know how it works out.

Jakey 02-12-2004 11:29 PM

Mike I may have missed this, but what are you going to be running for a transmission, Shepherd Racing?

Satan's finest
Stock for now.

JET 02-12-2004 11:48 PM

I would run some crappy tires if I were you Vicious. That center diff is really going to be put to the test with all that torque you will be making! Especially if spool up is anywhere close to what you think it will be. If you don't launch it too hard you might get by with the stocker, but I would definately have that on the to-do list.

Oh trust me, it's on the ta do list. ;)

Goat Blower 02-13-2004 01:33 AM

Nice work. It looks like leaving the top cover off will fool 99% of the fools out there. Guess I need to start shopping for a block and build me one of them bad boys.

Matt D. 02-13-2004 04:19 AM

Vicious, what bolt are you using to hold the crank gears on? It looks a lot better than the OEM piece of shit.

"OEM piece of shit" part numbers MD131259 (bolt) & MD377400 (washer) :P

Matt D. 02-13-2004 02:21 PM

Weird, all the ones I've seen are bigger and have the square hole for a ratchet.

1ViciousGSX 02-13-2004 02:25 PM

Yeah, my 7-bolt has that one in it with the 1/2 inch ratchet drive..

1ViciousGSX 02-14-2004 06:26 PM

Coming together nicely, won't be long before she fires up. I couldn't help but slide the intake and turbo on it to take some pics. :bounce:

I hope these pics get some of you people out there wrenching on your cars (indoors of cousre).

Custom clearanced water pipe is on. Hitting shit with a hammer can relieve some tension :P .

Ha, you still have an Elite Autosport sticker on the car? Is that a DNP exhaust manifold? I hate those orange hose couplers, sometimes they won't seal no matter what. Get that thing in the car!

Yeah I still got them stickers on the car :P . All the tuner shops around here are for Honduh people, so I might as well take care of the people who take care of the DSM crowd.
Yep, that's the DNP manifold.
I haven't had any problems with the coupler yet.
Will be in there real soon, hopefully tomorrow, just waiting on some little parts that haven't come in yet.

Iceman 02-15-2004 02:40 AM

God that looks sexy! I think you might of metioned this but what turbo did you go with? Also what exh manifold is that? Keep the pictures coming :)

Matt D. 02-15-2004 03:43 AM

Since when do they allow something like that in a BMW shop??
