Re: crazy studdering while Reving
Try a new coil pack, but first try a good set of wires- stock NGK or taylors or something that is good. Wires can make a big difference.
Everyone needs to settle down geez... |
Re: crazy studdering while Reving
Electrical is anything but my thing. I dont have one nor would I know how to use one. Every coil is sparking, I just dont know if it is sparking right. I'm going to try and buy more new wires and plugs. The reasons these ones suck, is because the ends break off everytime you disconnect them from the coil pack and the spark plug. 2/4 are trashed.

Re: crazy studdering while Reving
Well I took craigs ass hole advise and it got me in the right direction ;) Thanks fucker!
The problem is still not fixed but I have a good feeling I know what it is. Since I put in NICE wires, NEW plugs gapped at .031, and checked out the coil pack; I realized sparks PERFECT. So what does that tell me? I air or fuel.. So I popped the clips off the injectors and pulled them one by one while the car was running. This is what I got #4 - almost killed car #3 - almost killed car #2 - almost killed car #1 - no change in how it ran The car was already running weird and getting horrible gas mileage prior to this "tune up". So its likely that the injector was starting to get clogged and it finally had its own. Problem is, I just sold my 450s and dont have anymore. I could use some good help if anyone feels like turning some advice over. Im up for any ideas. Thanks in advance! |
Re: crazy studdering while Reving
I'll check to see if I have a single 450 left. I won't break up a set if I just have sets left though.

Re: crazy studdering while Reving
I installed a couple injectors in #1. No improvement. Its still not firing. We put #2 clip on #1 and it was firing, but obviously out of order.
How can I fix the sensor / electrical problem? Can I just splice a new clip that attatches to the injector in there? |
Re: crazy studdering while Reving
Yeah, be sure to solder it and shrink wrap it. You don't want to ghetto something up there where it is going to get wet a lot.

I guess its a bit more complicated. I guess I have to use a DVOM and find where the signal is being lost and cut / solder there. I really dont know how to use that DVOM meter but I have one I can use. ERIC FUCKING METZGER COULD BE SOME HELP HERE. Too bad he's horrible at answering the phone. EDIT ;) * notice the sarcasim now? |

LOL, if you are still having problems on Tuesday with this and haven't gotten a hold of Eric, I am pretty handy when It comes to electrical and can help. Let me know.

First were going to check and see if there is a short in the ecu. I'd much rather it be somthing like that than deep into the wiring harness, that's just a headache... That is the next option that we are going to try out. I belive i have a DVM somwhere in the garage.. As far as the baggering goes, theres no point |
Re: crazy studdering while Reving
Matt ( alpine TSI) went through the trouble to come down and figure out the problem. I'm glad he did because it was quite a bit beyond my electrical knowledge. If he feels the need to chime in and add detail, you can get more specs but until then, this is what I can tell you.
Basically one of the 2 wires going into the injector clip located on the top of injector number 1, was shorted somewhere. He ran a line to another source of signal or power ( cant remember with already lol) and now it works. Bad thing - Check engine light pops on while at idle, and while no gas is applied. My guess is that the ecu thinks the injector isnt getting a signal but im not sure. It runs fine. It wasnt very EASY to figure out, as he had to test a lot of crap with minimal tooling. However he did a great job and if for some reason he wanted to and someone needed help with electrical, I'd recommend him. |
Re: crazy studdering while Reving
Thanks, now get that ECU taken care of! Unless you enjoy the smell of dead fish ;)

Re: crazy studdering while Reving
BUMP -
Would kind of like to know why the engine light comes on while at idle.. I dont have a scanner to check the code. I think its the way we wired it.. |
Re: crazy studdering while Reving
Bump, it's my car ~ I'd like to know aswell.

Re: crazy studdering while Reving
Get the caps done, then worry about the CEL. Seriously, that damage to the board can't be doing any good.
If needed I have a logger and a cable that is now functioning correctly if you wanted to get the code figured out. Matt |
