Re: Product ideas
I like the idea of a stainless exhaust manifold cover. I also think it'd look nice to have a stainless upper timing belt cover to go with that shiny spark plug cover....
|
Re: Product ideas
I am going to look into both of those pretty soon. Products are being put on the back burner for a bit (except the intake manifold) as I have 3 cars waiting to get worked on right now. Hopefully I can keep the intake's pretty much on schedule, then I will be able to focus on the other projects.

Re: Product ideas
Albert Raczynski(aka DV/DT Fab) is another well loved guy on some other boards and by a lot of the Chicago DSM guys. :)

Re: Product ideas
Can you make some, 38mm Westgate flapper doors and some Steel Turbine housing for a direct bolt on to any, 90-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse, Galant VR-4, Eagle Talon or Plymouth Laser? You could have it machined to accept all the Mitsubishi stock and upgrade turbochargers, like the Garrett/Turbonetics turbochargers.
|
Re: Product ideas
Big flapper doors are a waste, just get it ported. They are also readily available. I won't be doing turbine housings any time in the near future. Possibly a year down the road or something, but not in the plans right now.
I am really looking for things that are not available right now, or things that are very over priced. The spark plug cover is a good example and will be done this summer in many different models. |
Re: Product ideas
mounting brackits for aftermarket ignitions and translators. Jason made one, and it turned out great. However, it would be nice to just pick one up with bolts and everything ready to install.

Re: Product ideas
For people who like their bling, there's always SS Fusebox covers. That shouldn't be too difficult.
|
Re: Product ideas
I could definatley do the brackets, I will put that on the list! I might get into more of the polished bling stuff later on this year.

Re: Product ideas
Could you make an “ARB” like air locker, for the front differential on a DSM?
Than I could have 100% FWD lock on demand with a switch. |
Re: Product ideas
Not nearly enough room on a DSM.
|
Re: Product ideas
I think you could make something fit in side, with some transaxle case modifications.
I say this because, I work on Suzuki’s like the Grand Vitara, the front diff has an air locker, that looks like it would fit. It’s just a smaller design than the ARB’s in domestics. |
Re: Product ideas
Why not just get a LSD which will not only help launches, but everday driving and agressive handling. I was more than satisfied with my $200 BM-LSD (not a true LSD, same as the Phantom-Grip) as handling and launching were both improved (get equal-length halfshafts too for even more improvement).

Re: Product ideas
what are stock exhaust manifolds made out of? How much would it take to make stainless manifolds that flow better naturally VS having to get them ported? im assuming SS would work fine.

Not a bad idea, but I want a spool for a diff ,that I can turn off with a switch. All I care about is going straight after all it’s only a fwd with lots of under steer. I have had the half shaft in for seven years now, I also sell the seal adapter on eBay sometimes, great mod. But as far a spool with a switch I know it’s a stretch. |
Re: Product ideas
I will look into it some, but strength might be an issue.
Stock manifolds are cast iron for a 1g, 2g's have a better formulation. Not all SS is good for exhaust manifolds. The best by far is 321 stainless (when money is an object). It uses titanium to stabilize it in the medium temperature ranges. Basically all other stainless will start to break down when used in the 800* - 1550* range. Notice that this is right in the normal operating range for an exahust manifold. In that range most SS will form a chromium carbide precipitation that comes to the surface. This brings the carbon out of the SS and makes it weaker at higher temps. In closing, only 321 stainless or inconel should be used on a exhaust manifold for a daily driven car. On a race car that doesn't see a ton of use, you can get by with 304. |

Re: Product ideas
im going to want a metal peice professionally fabricated for my 1g to fit my deck and an AFC beneith it. Probably aluminum. Dont know if there is a market for anything like that.. Id also Be interested in some sort of custom guage cluster thats a little bit hidden, i see no point in showing off guages.
