Re: HG install techniques

If you want to drop it off at my house in Fridley, I can take it to work and check it out on the surface plate. Have it cleaned up really good (both the gasket and oil) and I will do it for free.

Re: HG install techniques

Last night I lined up my 3 timing marks as shown in the factory manual and i pulled the head off my car. When you pull the head off, you realize how apart your car really is. I pulled the head gasket off. My question: How do you clean the head gasket surface on the block. The stuff from the gasket is really caked on there. What do you guys use?

Thanks.

The block is cast iron, so you can use a razor blade on that. The head also needs to be cleaned off. That is aluminum, so be careful when cleaning that off. Be careful not to get stuff in the water/oil passages.

Thanks Jet, I think my buddy whom is a mechanic uses some sort of plastc type wheel too. Think of it as a wire brush but with hard plastic as the bristles. It got late last night so i didn't even attempt to remove any of it. It sure is caked on there. It's grey in color. Pistons and valves all looked good.
