Re: RWD Sport Compacts/Imports

I am ignoramus? erm..ok? Anyway, rockford is dead on about the 240. The s2k (s2000) as I last recalled, still has the world's most power per liter production motor, at something to the tune of 240 hp. They redline at around 11k (not 100% positive on this..I'd hafta go look it up) Their suspension setup are quite nice, and I've tested a few on some tracks. the torque down low leaves a little to want, but with a supercharger they can be quite potent. If you autocross, keep it up around 6k, and go from there. They have a digital readout instead of regular gauges, and the interior I actually like. Braking force is pretty nice, and I even used downshifting to help slow it down even more. Once I went down 1 gear too low, as I was going into the corner, and the rear end swapped with the front. Just be careful with your driving technique, and you will have fun with this car. I'd say the only downside with the s2k, or even the 240 is that they are rather expensive to upkeep, or mod. The 240 has become a much more popular car, due to the drifting craze, and since then parts are more pricey then they used to be.

Re: RWD Sport Compacts/Imports

The Evo does make more power per liter. The s2000 isn't anything special, but are fun cars though it may make 120 hp/ltr, the Evo still makes like 130.5 or whatever per liter. No one ever said how it was made w/ or w/o Forced induction. Superchargers on s2000s are a waste as they are on any 4 cyl motor and the s2000 redlines at 9k I believe. Oh yea, the s2000 is pretty damn pathetic when it comes to the torque side of the argument.

I guess if you want something cheap Allan, 240s are the way to go in this case but if you want a turbo 240, just keep the KA and slap a turbo on. It's got more potential than the SR20 does. Parts for a 240 aren't much, the SR20 HKS cams are like $200 each, the KA pistons are about $450-500, exhausts are pretty normal costing and so are many other things. It's just stupid ricer drifto drifto kids want BLITZ and JIC and "JDM" crap and will pay more for the stupid name.

He's going to rally the damn thing, he doesn't need a nice car like an S2000.

How bout a Volvo 740? :D

I'd shoot for a 240. If I ever did another Import project, that'd be it.

I doubt it's even for rally, he is more likely just wanting to impress the little girls at the SA in Rogers with his mad drifting skillz into and out of the parking lot.

Why not just do a RWD eclipse/talon/laser?... if RWD is your goal? Can be done pretty easily.

Re: RWD Sport Compacts/Imports

Yeah, I want a RWD car as my next fun project. I think we will have another DSM down the road in the household with Jana cause she still talks about missing her GSX.

I'd be up for converting my current 1.8 to RWD if the swap was "reliable" and not over expensive. But then again I don't know if it would be allowed in some events for Rally. A 240 might be in my future and I also looked at the AE86. I just don't like them. Was also thinking of maybe any older stang but that's been done.

The plan is to use teh 1.8 this year in the rest of the rally x events i get to and either work in it and stay FWD (ick) or get into somehing RWD by fall pending money and what I decide to go with.

The MR2 of course. :) The Fiero is also a RWD sport compact, with a good engine swap they can compete as well.

Of the other ones mentioned, I wouldn't mind a Sylvia. heheh

How about a porsche 944 turbo? Already turbo'd, intercooled, 50/50 weight distro, plenty of mods out there, and you can get them for a decent price.

Re: RWD Sport Compacts/Imports

why would you rally a 944 or a S2000? Those cars are way too nice for that! You should get a 240 or some 80s trash mr2 or something like that. If you are thinking newer; buy a new Cobra. Make sure to tell the dealer what you will be doing with it. Better yet, show him:)

Yeah just go flying out of the parking lot into the nearest field.
I'd go 240, older corolla/celica, or one of the z creations for rally. Ever thought of a 1st gen rx7? I had one of those, the are very nimble, and fairly easy to find parts for.

How about.....

an AWD DSM. If you want to Rally Cross get an AWD or FWD.

AJ 03-23-2005 04:14 PM

Re: RWD Sport Compacts/Imports

The AWD class is so competitive and packed. i don't mind the competition but wouldn't mind a change either since I have done the AWD thing. But it's what I will do over FWD if I don't get into something RWD. I just don't enjoy FWD.
