STi's dont come with a radio????? hmmm thats a little odd

Yeah the STi has no radio, and the interior is cheap, so for daily driving purposes, I'd proly get the evo... The STi does come stock with 30 more ponies... I KNOW I KNOW... they only win by a 10th... but that's proly all driver... I also hate mitsu service... Every dealer knows me for some reason (hmmm...) I love the looks of both cars, but I don't know much about an in line 4, much less a flat 4.... and Kapers, shut up... You'd rather drive a Nissan Sentra anyway...

I'd be interested in hearing more about that bad pressure plate in the STi, and clutch problems with the EVO. I know Ryan has to get a clutch line or something... And there is a recall on the tranny... WHo knows....

And does the RS come with AYC??? 6th Gear??

Buying a car that has never been driven isnt my excuse for getting a new car... IMHO I would never buy a new car (unless i was loaded and still maybe not then) because you loose so much money even in the first few months.... Just seems like a big waste to me. I would rather get a 1 or 2 year old car for half the cost from a reliable owner and buy other stuff for it.

Alot of the tests out there comparing the STi to the EVO ranked the Evo as faster in 1/4 and road coarse.... I would take an evo over a STi just becuase I know its history.

But its all up to you... your decision. For 30k you could have 2 nice cars, a daily driver and a racer.

I was running for parts today and went to both dealerships. I was at the subi dealership in Brooklyn Park tonight and took a good look at the STi. I even got in one that was running and ready to go for a test drive when a couple of managers came running out and stopped us. They lady showing it to us was new and didn't know you couldn't test drive one. Next time I won't adjust the seat. I think the STi has a nicer interior. The adjustable diff is cool too. I next when to Mitsu where they still wouldn't hand over the keys, odd last time they offered.

I hate to say it but I would have a hard time not getting the STi over the EVO. The only thing about the subi is I've been under the hood and they are a little tougher to work on, but not that bad.

I am using my car, and $10k as a down payment... I will be financing through Mitsu... I could not get a personal loan or auto loan through any bank, because I have a few school loans through major bank lenders. I do however have good lending history with Mitsu Motors and GMAC... It's the situation handed to me... :razz2:

Yeah the STi has a driver controled center differential. It has an automatic mode, where tons of sensors determine where the power should go. It's similar to the Active Yaw Control on the Evo. But the AYC isn't offered on the U.S. Evo. The Subaru DCCD also has a manual mode where you can control the front/rear torque split from 50/50 to 35/65 (rear bias).

Also, here's some food for thought. The Evo runs 19 psi with 8.8:1 compression, while the STi runs 14.5 psi with 8.2:1 compression. I don't know if anyone has tried it yet, but it looks like with the STi, you're just a boost controller away from insane power from a basically stock car.

The Subaru also has more power down low, and with the 2.5 liter motor, there's a lot less turbo lag.

Unless the motor just blows up because its a Subaru motor. Or maybe the turbo is too small to keep up. Or maybe it has an ECU like the normal WRXs that ignores the knock sensor at high rpms and the motor blows instead of pulling timing.

-do the evo's use the same rods as the dsm's? never seen one, just know that when i rebuilt my 90 talon the rods were pretty flimsy looking- about half the size as the rods in my mr2 were.

-i'm not really a subaru fan, in fact i would get the evo.

The EVO 8s uses rods that look just like the ones in 92.5+ DSMs. AMS is making 525whp on their stock bottom end EVO 8. The 90-92.5 DSMs had bigger/stronger rods, they look beefy compared to most rods and are known to handle over 500whp. Bad tuning can bend a rod at 200whp though...

Do you know where you adjust the Center diff on the STi? And do you have anyway I can talk to whoever had problems with their Evo?? And if you know anyone who's managed to blow up an STi, that info would be good too!

I say Evo, every comparison I have read says it handles better. That and the fact that I absolutely cant stand the noise the flat motor makes at low RPM, they just sound stupid, like a retarded four cylinder or something

Yeah, my ex had a 2002 2.5RS Impreza and that thing would vibrate quite a bit. You also have to stick a stereo in the Sti, which adds to the cost.

The biggest bitch I had about her car was that it would push no matter what. A DSM you can get to swing the ass end out, but that thing would always push. I wouldn't think that would be a problem in the Sti with the switchable center diff though.

I would still go EVO.
