Re: Fp green or red
If the black is only a few dollars more why not do that?

Re: Fp green or red
Well to be honest, I don't know diddly squat about the turbo's. I always thought the black may be a bit overkill. I mean, as I said I am basically trying to get a turbo, that will make for a great street car, due to the fact I don't get it on the track much, and am not building a drag car out of it. That being said, if people don't feel that black would be overkill, I would consider it, if that makes sense.

Re: Fp green or red
A stroker with a Green on it would be a sick street setup I'd think. Great balance of power and spool, would keep it a very enjoyable car to scoot around in. I know we live in this internet world now where if you don't have a 70mm turbo then you don't deserve to breathe. But in the real world, a 450hp Green powered stroker DSM with kick ass spool would be fuggin sweet.

Re: Fp green or red
Yea, don't get the black. I had a 2.3 with an old school red, was pretty fun and spooled around 4000 rpms which I thought was good for the street. But a green would have even better spool and be tons of fun with maybe 50 less horsepower. I would vote for the green.

If you go external.. try the punishment racing 02. They have the full setup with wastegate for $570. My new car has it and so far I like it. Only issue I've seen so far was the previous owner said he ordered the black color wastegate but now the color is heat cycled and looks off on the color now. I can take a picture. Tomorrow if you want. |
Re: Fp green or red
I think the Green will be perfect for you IF you just want to have a nice street car with track capabilities. With the red you have room to grow or build upon if you'd choose to do so. That 2.3 with that ported head is going to do shit...lol Aren't you using a SMIM too?

Re: Fp green or red
Not yet no, though I would love to get one if some one had one for sale! Still running stock intake mani.
I actually have my eye on a recirculated o2 housing with a tial 38mm that someone I know is selling. Basically it's half the price. Spending a lot of money within the next month so I would like to save when I can! |
Re: Fp green or red
The setup you saw for sale seemed like a great setup, and I'd be happy to show you how that looks on my car. I have a 2.3 with a black but agree on what the others have said as far as the goals and capabilities of each turbo.

Re: Fp green or red
Topend yo! I say go with the FP black, worried about spool? then down shift its that simple. the turbos "lag" or threshold will be high probably around 5krpms, but the actual lag would wouldn't be too bad.
|
Re: Fp green or red
The stock intake mani is fine at the level of any of these turbos.
|
Re: Fp green or red
^^Agree. Don't go SMIM unless you really have too. The more you mod, the more you start to appreciate how well OEM stuff fit and worked.
|
Re: Fp green or red
Very, very true, just like how they look, but, I am most likely getting my stock mani powder coated so I guess it'll look just as good! So I have decided to order the green, question though, will paying the extra $95 to get it ported by them going to be benificial? Or is it a waste of 95 bucks
|
Re: Fp green or red
With the green I wouldn't imagine you maxing out the flow of that housing so I wouldn't worry about the porting personally. Others may have better results though. Mainly on the exhaust side, it is to reduce creep, and on the compressor side, to increase flow.

Re: Fp green or red
Alright, I wasnt figuring I would really need it, but, figured I would get opinions!

Re: Fp green or red
Up to you really. Me personally I'd do it, I had my old bolt on 50-trim ported. Can't go wrong either way, just whether or not you want to drop another $95. If you're on a tight budget, just skip it you'll be happy either way.
And great choice man, I don't know how much power you've driven before but on E85 you'll be able to get into the 400's and it'll rip up the streets at those levels. And on a 2.3, it'll feel like a 16g on a 2.0 so still fun as hell to drive. Great choice! If only we all could choose like that and not get caught up in the internet HP dick swinging. |
Re: Fp green or red
I may just give in and port it, I mean, better to have it done for piece of mind, right? haha
|
Re: Fp green or red
Yep, and done by FP who built the turbo so you know it'll be done nicely. Will give it just a tad more flow which Mitsu housings tend to already be a little more restrictive, so will only help in that regard. I think it's a good idea, but whether or not it's worth the cost is up to the person making the decision. Either way you go you won't go wrong though, it'll be a killer setup.

Re: Fp green or red
Yeah I personally do not want to build a crazy high hp car right now, all I wanted was a car that I can have a complete blast in on the road, yet still have the ability to throw it on a track if I really wanted to. Plus I realize the more power you put through a motor, the more likely you arre to break things, which I already deal with enough!
