i'm planning to pay a machine shop. I like the idea of running a more forgiving better sealing composite gasket, with the o rings to provide the combustion sealing power of a mls. I am using L19's.

I see no problem with getting it o-ringed. You don't have to do the same thing everybody else has done. This way, even if you do have to pull the head for some reason, you're only down $40 for a headgasket and not $200+

To be totally honest I am really burnt out on this car. It may tun into a big part out. I have owned it for over 10 years and it has been the cause of 100's of headaches. I only drove it once last year thinking I would be excited to get it out this year. But I really am not, and I already have a long list of changes to make it more drivable.

Also know that I did mine because the G54B has no awesome aftermarket gaskets like that, or A1 or L19 studs and most people have problems with more than low 20's.

Just get the head and block deck sealing surfaces ground down to a mega flat surface, then hit them with some copper spray and slap them together.

NO HEADGASKET NEEDED

Well, since I work at a machine shop... this is kind of a no brainer... I can toss the head in a cnc and cut whatever I want into the head to seal it. and like Goodhart said. $40 bucks when it comes time to change if you have to is alot better than a $200 head gasket and hundreds in machining and you have to pull the whole motor. Obviously the block and head have to be fairly flat for anything to work, but not ridiculous flat for a mls.

Unless it is a Cometic. Those things suck. I went through 2 of them with fresh surfaces and ARP's running 23psi with a good Shane tune. The surfaces have to be beyond perfect apparently.
