I have new tires in the garage anyhow :)

Re: Thinking about Rotas - Offset Suggestion?

I am running 17x8 inch rims with a +42mm offset, 245/40-17 tires, and KYB AGXs.

I've had that size tire on the car for a few hundred miles and have had no rubbing issues with a 2inch drop. I definitely prefer this size over the 235/45-17s I had before.

An 8 inch rim with a +48 offset will not clear the rear trailing arms without spacers. You might get away with it up front with your coilovers. It will limit your turning radius though. My car just barely starts to rub on the inside of the fender well if I turn the wheel all the way.

A +35mm offset would stick out way to far in my opinion. It may also rub on the fenders depending on how you're suspension is set up.

Here is a pic of mine that kind of shows how the tires sit in relation to the fenders. You can kind of see the front tires stick out just a bit. This is with no negative chamber up front too.

Those look great, the fronts stick out the right amount IMO.

You are missing a headlight in that pic, btw.

Great looking car.

Re: Thinking about Rotas - Offset Suggestion?

Thats the kind of info I have been looking for!

THANKS WOLF!!

So on a 1st gen what exactly needs to be clearanced in the rear on the control arm

I'm looking for a 40/42 offset, 245 tires, 17" for some lame big brakes.

Now just gotta find the right wheels...

for a 1g, my opinion is...
first I'd get the:

the Enkei RPF whatevers
the TE37's
the last ones,
then the OZ racing ones...

Re: Thinking about Rotas - Offset Suggestion?

Second from the last rpf's maybe ? Those things are dope!
The rotas on the bottom are sweet too

Re: Thinking about Rotas - Offset Suggestion?

These Konig Countersteer R's (TE37 copies) are pretty cool, and they'r eon sale in the 16x7 +25 offset. they'd be cool if you don't want to go with bigger than a 225 or 235 on there.

No problem man! I know I searched all over before I bought tires this spring and couldn't find any real solid info on fitment. So, glad to help.:)

For clearancing the rear... The inside edge of the lip of the rim is what gets close. Some people grind down the flange on the trailing arm. Unless you want to run wider than an 8" rim, I don't see the point of bringing the rear rims in further. I'll see if I can get a pic of that inside edge on mine later today.

RPFs are hawt!

Thanks Aaron! The car is slowly but surely coming along.:D

As for the missing headlight, I was told that's how you go fast. I wanna go fast!:drive1:

Re: Thinking about Rotas - Offset Suggestion?

I'd say the first or the last everything else wouldn't look right or look like too many other cars.

Wolf, I'm taking out all my lights in the front then!! I have 2 LED worklights I can tape to the dash.

Re: Thinking about Rotas - Offset Suggestion?

I actually would like a Rota, because they are cheap and if they get f-ed up on our shitty roads it won't be a huge PITA to replace one, or an arm and a leg. Just an arm is OK. Rota only offers most of the wheels I want in a +35, or +48 offset. Boo.

The OZ's are 17x8+40

Re: Thinking about Rotas - Offset Suggestion?

I say the TE37's or the 3rd set down, those OZ's don't look too bad either.

I like the volks and the rpf1's. Both VERY expensive though.

The RPF1's aren't that expensive(in 17s, prolly under $1k for a set if you buy from the right vendor). The TE37s are though... $500-750 a piece).

Kevin, get like a 17x8 +35 offset. That would work nicely... trust me.

Re: Thinking about Rotas - Offset Suggestion?

Anything around 1k is very expensive to me. Haha

Re: Thinking about Rotas - Offset Suggestion?

Ideally I want bronze TE37's 17x8 or wider, but don't want to drop the coin on them. If I could get Rota Grid's in bronze in 17x8 or wider in a +40 offset I think I'd be done. I just want 255's all around. I'm not that keen on doing the 17x7.5 +35, then doing a 5mm spacer, and doing 255's on the 7.5 width.

They are growing on me. I should have bough Steve Hill's Volks!

I'll see if I can get Chris Johnson to let me try on his 17x8 +35s. I think id prefer the more flush look.

Mo, can you fit 255s on a 17x8 +40 without issue on a 1g?
