Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
So when are you planning on pulling the rest of the motor apart to make sure the rest of the rods and all the bearings are good?
|
Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
Its already apart. While the orders are coming in for the rod and piston and the head is being cleaned up, i will be replacing the other rod bearings, with the new set i got from map at the beginning of this whole ordeal, retorquing the rod caps, checking torque on the rest of the bottom end, oil cover and everything on the timing belt side. Cleaning the oil pan thoroughly along with the oil screen etc. new filter all new fluids for the tranny and transfer case as well as the rear diff. Then when i put everything back together i will be torqueing everything to my spec. :) Cleaning up what needs to be clean.
Also i will be working on the interior a lot. The headliner needs to come down and be redone, the seats will be repaired, carpets cleaned thoroughly etc. Question: The car doesnt have a spare tire, and doesnt have the cover for the spare tire. Can i just cut the big hump in the back there out and sheet metal over it, or is there something on the other side of the hump. Ill check it before i do it but just wondering if there is something i should be watching out for? -Tom |

heres some carnage pics.
The picture of the piston you can see where it slapped the head, the top ring is compressed and wont come out. the other ones came out with minimal effort. |
Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
The gas tank curves up, only about an inch of room between the tank and the trunk floor.

Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
Headliner was sagging and i was bored today, so i went to joann fabrics and they have actual headliner material, so i picked up some of that and some spray adhesive and fixed the headliner, it looks great. Ill post up pics.
In a week or two im going to order brand new carpet, probably go with graphite or black, because im planning on putting a set of 2g seats (if they fit) to replace the 1g ones. |
Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
What kind of spray adhesive did u use?
I hope its good stuff, a lot of it seems to sag after a couple weeks. Why would u put 2g seats in a 1g? 1g are way better. I got my new carpet from some ebay company it was great fit just needed cut for the shifter, was only $110. |

I wanted to put the 2g seats in there because they are in a little better shape, and if i go with a graphite or black carpet, it would be more matching then the tan seats. Still not sure if they will fit but we will see. |

No pictures yet = fail!

Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
Nice, that name sounds familiar I think thats the stuff people were saying to use.
Also peter is right, where are the pics? |
Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
Seats wont fit without a lot of modification. The 2g brackets are weird, all four mounting points are different heights, different than 1gs.

The car is missing one of the sun visors so i didnt pop the holes in the passenger side visor area. The driver side visor i have to recover still. I first took down the headliner, and then used a welding brush (thick wire brush) to clean off the old foam padding. Then sanded it a little smoother and to clean the rest off. Then repaired the broken peices. I then sprayed the Super 77 and waited like 15 seconds to get it tacky. Then layed it down and smoothed everything. Then cut it out leaving a couple mm of extra to wrap a bit. Let her dry and she was good to go. The material i used is really nice, i was thinking i was going to have to get fabric and foam seperate but Joanns had the headliner material that the foam was on the back of the cloth. |
Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project

Tom, I swear you once said that you'd never own a 1g. :) |

I think tonight i may start ripping into the engine bay, getting the Ignition hooked up for the most part, and getting the new Prosport Boost gauge hooked up.

Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project
headliner looks good. Where is the special headliner fabric at Joann's? When I went there last year, I walked all over the whole store looking for the best fabric to use, and ended up just getting some felt.
Also, good idea using the 3M stuff. I saved a couple bucks and went with some Loctite brand adhesive, and it sucks, I have to redo it. I'll be making sure to use the best 3M stuff I can find. But still curious where exactly in the store you got the fabric. Because I'll have to get new fabric I think, and am willing to use something other than this felt, although the felt did turn out decent. |
