^Lol, just goes to show there is always another angle and way to look at something. I suppose the mpg's may actually be better since your probably shifting before the boost hits in a dd situation. LOL, bigger turbos may just be the way to solve the mpg problem.

Re: what turbo to get??

Big turbos are nice if you want your DD to feel like a normal sedated car and get better gas mileage. If you want a twitchy high strung feeling pocket rocket then get a quick spooling 14B, T28 or 16G. The 16G is killer for autox and track racing though. But sometimes the turbo always spooling when you are just trying to drive normal gets annoying.

Some people have to take off quick from every stoplight, hit it on every on ramp and drive like a maniac weaving in and out of traffic on the freeway. If that is your driving style then get a 16G. If you can control yourself, only use the power when you need it, and know to downshift into the right gear when you want to go fast, then maybe get a big turbo.

True^lol i think that why most people go the 16g itz really fun when spooling up. great for quick take off so..this is why i keep a 16g on hand as a back up turbo.

Re: what turbo to get??

I drive the car a lot but not always daily driven and the v trim doesn't exactly spool the greatest so I'm already used to a little lag so I think I'm leaning toward a 50 trim or 60 trim unless you guys have any other suggestions

Re: what turbo to get??

^sounds like you got it figured out. they are really decent turbos and Im sure you will be happy with either one.

Re: what turbo to get??

I really like my Holset. I spool up around 4000rpm. It's laggy. I like it. I have had a 20G car, and 14B cars. Even the 20G wasn't laggy. The constant spooling gets annoying IMHO. And you save a lot more gas when your turbo is like an on/off switch. You just put around normal, and then if you need to f*ck with that Camaro you can.

A "back up turbo"? Sorry, but anyone running a big turbo, it's not quite that easy to swap on. REAL "big turbos" use different manifolds, external wg's, different exhausts, feed/return lines, intake, etc, not to mention different tune. Keeping it for safe keeping..ok. But, as a backup to something else, to me says it's a "swapable affair". Usually not associated with larger framed guys.

All that said, I suggest a gt47-88. Puts some hair on your chest. :moon:

I like my scm61 and would recommend it.

Re: what turbo to get??

well i've found an scm61 and an scm50 that I am deciding between. I just need to find an external wastegate setup to go with it

yes i know the big turbo require different manifolds, external wg's, different exhausts, feed/return lines, intake, etc, i keep the 16g as a back up turbo for my other dsm which is currunly runnin the stock turbo ...anyway i also recommend the scm61 or if you want some hair on your chest go with the gt47-88

James (slowbubblecar) has this turbo still sitting in my garage:

http://www.mitsustyle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23835

I think he got it to put on a car he is thinking about selling (or my car) but nothing has happened yet. I know he has several different mainfolds laying around, oil line kit, 02s, etc.

I have a 60trim laying around that I would need to get rebuilt if you are interested in it at all. It was John Lacroix's old turbo. It hauled ass on a 2g gs-t before needing rebuild. I may throw it on my car though...

I need a mitsuflanged turbo cause I don't want to get rid of my fp exhaust manifold. the one in the link is a t3. is the 60 trim a mitsu flange?

Re: what turbo to get??

Idk, I will have to check. They do make small adapter plates to put a T3 housing on a mitsu flange.

Re: what turbo to get??

lol adapter plates.

I would say fiddy trim, i like response and the TQ smaller turbos make early.
I have a bolton HX35 and I like it spools damn fast for its size and the top end is there.

The question is how much do you want to spend? The best option if you have the money is a bolt on HX35.

get a S374 or just a T101.

Re: what turbo to get??

I was thinking "400awhp" because everyone needs this much power because the internet tells them so. Once they actually have one that fast they realize what they do and do not need.

Maybe he does need 400awhp, then there will be a sacrifice of low end performance, on a 2.0L, to get where he needs to be.

I still think the evo 16g on E85 is the best street combo on a dsm.

and do I need 400awhp honestly I would say no it's more of a want ;). I haven't completely ruled out the evo III 16g. it is definitely the best bang for the buck.

and honestly right now I don't know if I can flip the bill for an external wastegate setup like most the turbos I actually want need. so that leaves me with a new v-trim like I have now cause they are cheap or a new eIII 16g cause they are the same price (or maybe a used one). I guess it just depends on how long I want my car out of commission
