I'm an auto tech and personally I'm the exact opposite. I found a job I love and I wouldn't want it anyway other way. but i can still make a pretty good living doing what I do but i'll never be rich and i'm ok with that. but you have to be highly motivated and bust your ass to do well in this feild so i can see where someone with a big lack of motivation could get irritating

I would much rather do something I love and make less money than something I hate and make a ton of money but thats just me

I think you took his post the wrong way. He didn't say you work to become RICH, he simply said you work to get money. Can you honestly say that you'd still work there if they told you they weren't going to pay you? I doubt it. A big reason you are there working, is that paycheck. It may not be the only reason, but is probably one of the biggest reasons people have jobs.

My personal view is similar. I work to make money, because to live where we live this day in age, money is a neccessity for the most part. Plus I like my toys, so saving money for those toys is motivation. That doesn't mean just pick any old job, or do something you don't believe in, simply for money and get rich. To me it's just a matter of finding something you think you're good at, something you enjoy somewhat, and something you feel good about. It may not be your passion, it may not be a huge hobby of yours, that's fine. I personally like to keep my work and my hobbies seperate. I like fast cars. I like working on them, riding in them, driving them, etc. I know that me personally, would not want to come home and tinker on my Talon after working on customers jurry rigged things for 10hrs all day. Not everyone is the same though, that's just my opinion on it.

I like to work on things in general. I like projects, I like to DO things. So I had a job as a technician. You install, fix, tinker, build, and troubleshoot refueling machines (cranes basically). I don't have a hard on for cranes, but it's fun to wire up joysticks, troubleshoot software and electrical problems, install antennas. It's something I could enjoy and make a decent living on, and come home and still enjoy my hobbies.

But, to each their own.

I'm not sure who you're saying took what the wrong way, but in general I agree with what you're saying. My biggest reason for wanting a change is because I think there are other careers out there that I'd be better at, a better fit for me, and would have more drive to succeed in. I do realize that it may not be working with automobiles (especially since the auto market is so bad right now for jobs), but I figure it wouldn't hurt to dabble in it and see for myself.

I suppose I did take it the wrong way. to me it sound like he was just saying to find a job that will just make you a bunch of money and if you don't like it just deal with it cause you are make lots of money and but he way you put it I do agree with what you said halon.

Halon is correct.

I am an accountant at a CPA firm. Primarily deal in corporate tax but I pretty much do anything related to accounting and taxes.

What I am trying to say is that you should find a job which supports the lifestyle you want to live. I happen to know several people who are working a job they like, wanting to live a greater lifestyle, and are planning to find someone to make it happen. There are some jobs which just do not pay enough to live off of (daycare for example).

My ex-fiance stopped paying anything towards the mortgage when I got a better job. She stopped paying me the $400/month (of the $1100/mo or so she made) and was still broke at the end of the month. Didn't bother her at all that I was paying the $15xx/mo mortgage payment and the rest of our expenses.

Find a job you like, look at the pay range and see if that is the lifestyle you want to live. People sometimes get too caught up on what they want to do that they forget about the primary reason they are working in the first place (money).

I don't like to work for free....

I'm in IT and although I am not thrilled with it, it does pay well...sure wouldn't have an Evo without it. I did drop out of grad school due to my dislike of the field but I didn't need the degree so that's a different story.
