I agree on the used cams route. I picked up my HKS 272's for $400 shipped. They work great, and I love the way they idle.

Thank you for the full list. :) Now it has a 6 puck Competition Clutch, and a COP.
I've got more plans for it as soon as money stabilizes. Had a hard year. Naw.. don't wanna downgrade.. just hold on to em till i can utilize them better. Hmm think someone here had crower 272's for sale... might still see if he's got em. ;)

They are shit, I'd recommend HKS of FP.

I know when I build my head it will be getting FP4 cams.

I also agree however going with some used cams. Your best bet is finding a used set of cams is HKS 272s, if 264/272 come around don't be pass those up.

If you buy new, get FP. On MAPs and FPs site they will tell you what one of their cams is compairable to HKS 272s and whether you need upgraded valve springs or not.

Re: scheides old 2G

I'd make moves to round up 700 dollars.

1G Clyinder Head
1G Head, HKS 272s, 1MM Oversized Valves, Fidenza Cam Gears, Crower Springs & Retainers
$700

That is on TalonRacers or Blageos part out thread, can't remember they both have AWD black Spyders... :)

Built head with cams and cam gears for a good price... Can't beat that.

+1. I got my used HKS 272's for something like 350.

I rather get that head and stay with the SAFC II then buy DSMlink.

A built head isn't going to be worth it for this car, heck I had the opportunity to do it on my evo and I still didn't do it.

That is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while. Sorry, but that makes zero sense. There's way more to be gained by having full control of fuel, timing, etc...heck, any gains you might dream of realizing from that head, you'd need dsmlink to get them...

Don't do the head. Just get cams and dsmlink in whatever order makes sense. A cam swap is easy and you can run them on the stock valvesprings no problemo (anyone else see a problem with this? I have yet to.) The car has a good head on it already, doing a full head swap is just going to be a huge PITA and cost a lot more money than its worth.

incase everyone didn't notice..DSM's are a BASIC receipe for power gains! Simple! Sounds like the above are trying to reinvent the wheel, but might come up short..

Cool Thanks! Guess I'll be ordering the ECMLink soon! Got the 95 2g eprom ecu yesterday!

Awesome! Get it up to shane and get some numbers down, then do cams when you're ready....etc etc :) I'm excited to see what she'll do!

Ya, I'll will need some schooling on the tuning with the link, Just finished figuring out the SAFCII lol.

Okay so the eprom looks almost like its in a socket already... umm how do I know. Guess I'll take a pic of it later when I get home.

Re: scheides old 2G

Ya just snap a pic of it and post it up, plenty of people here will be able to tell ya.

Idea:
Once you get dsmlink, buy a set of used evo 560cc injectors for $100-150, sell your 650's for $240 or so, sell s-afc for some cash, add in a few bucks and you have enough for a set of hks 272's :) That whole combo would be sweeet.

Are you planning on sticking with the turbo that's on there? Anyways, I'm rambling now....

Dundars 03-17-2009 11:51 AM

Re: scheides old 2G

I hear what you are saying scheides, but personally I rather have a 1g built head instead of a non built 2g head.

Why would you recommend a set of used HKS cams for 400 when you could have gears, retainers, springs, and valves on a 1g head for an extra 300.

Sure I will give it to ya, DSMlink would be more worth it, but good luck finding that type of a deal again. DSMlink isn't going anywhere, that head is...

scheides 03-17-2009 12:05 PM

Re: scheides old 2G

Because it's not a 2G head ;) It's a 1G head, the car has that and a 6-bolt bottom end in it :) It's got arp headstuds and when I had it, good valveseals and didn't burn oil or coolant, and had recently had the timing belt and water pump replaced. Not something I'd jump into taking apart.

Mara/Shane's car makes 480whp on DB's dyno and 560whp on MAP's dyno with a stock, unported 6-bolt head with some basic springs (crowers) and hks 272's.

Another great route is just keep the s-afc and do cams, but sounds like dsmlink is on the way already :)
