Re: Cold weather issues?
My big problem was that it was cold as hell outside so I decided to stay inside all day!

Re: Cold weather issues?
my tranny used to be supper notchy in the winter with amsoil tranny fluid, i now also use the redline cocktail and it acts almost like brand new synchros after a couple days.

Re: Cold weather issues?
Parking outside for the first time ever during winter. I sure miss heated underground parking. :( Last year I had underground non heated, and even with my 15w-50 oil, it always fired up. :D (Bad lifter tick which was solved last spring, now running 10w-30.)
No real problems, just starts a little slower but never more than 2 cranks. Scraping ice and snow sucks too. I think my car blew a shock out over the weekend, but not due to weather.. UGH |
Re: Cold weather issues?
both rear doors were frozen shut
the washer fluid was 1/2 frozen shell 10/40 with a bottle of Lucas it a little to thick to a while to run well the car does not get warm even with the drive to the airport 160 tem t-stat sucks for winter. the lock was frozen sliding all over the place with the 18's is not fun all yesterday |
Re: Cold weather issues?
My brake booster was having issues in the -15 weather the other night. When the car was running, the brakes were hard to press like if the car was off. After warming it up, it was good though. Turned over super slowly, but still started up like a champ.

It's always been 1-2 seconds of cranking to start, and even in this weather, it's no exception. They're just reeaaaaallllly reeaaaaallllly sloooooooooooooooooooooooow cranks. |
Re: Cold weather issues?
Well first time my car wouldn't start, battery was toast after 30 seconds of trying to start. I haven't started it in over a week so battery was probably about dead anyway. Getting a jump in 30 minutes.

Re: Cold weather issues?
The Honda battery has barely started our Talon the last 2 mornings.

Re: Cold weather issues?
I plugged my Grand Am in for the first time ever. I wanted to get heat faster in the morrning and it worked great. Started it, went inside for 2 min, got back in the car and the temp was over 100 already!

Re: Cold weather issues?
Yeah, I have a huge cold weather issue! Other drivers!
Seriously, though; my idle sucks but Kracka and I will fix that. Otherwise it's just been fun letting the car get squirley on the roads. |
Re: Cold weather issues?
on cable this week 'futureweapons' is running their cold weather episode up at Ft. Wainwright in Alaska.

Re: Cold weather issues?
Other than my low speed spin yesterday infront of my apartment building, I've had no issues at all. My car cranks a little slow when I'm leaving work and idles like shit for a couple mins, but it still fires right up.

Re: Cold weather issues?
Well I got my car started. Even with it hooked up to another battery, it still took probably 2 full minutes of it cranking/sputtering for a few seconds, then letting it rest for a few seconds. Probably flooded so much it took even longer to start, and when it finally did start, it didn't seem like it was running right.
After consulting with Peter, we determined it had fouled plugs from being excessively flooded, and was probably running on less than 4 cylinders. When I got them out, 3/4 were pitch black, just completely coated. Replaced them with new ones, and it was rough for a few seconds then idled like normal again. I'm not going to let it sit for over a week again unless it's inside the garage. |
Re: Cold weather issues?
car's been in the garage to 3 days straight and i just fired it up about 30 minutes ago...started right up. the cars outside (truck) had trouble started a-ok.

Re: Cold weather issues?
I had no problems this morning. No mushy clutch at cold start anymore, yay!
Did a little drifting, too, in the back lot at Normandale. Took a little bit of work without being able to spool the turbo, but by the end I was able to do a full lap of the lot completely sideways. |
Re: Cold weather issues?
My TPMS light came on the other night. It was -5 outside and neither my tire gauge or the compressor at the gas station were working correctly. I just drove home on it and luckily it was only about ~10lbs low. But, a good reminder that tires lose air in cold weather.

Re: Cold weather issues?
I couldn't get my car to start for the past 3 days now.
