Re: Blown Head Gasket?

Here is a tip. Don't reuse headgaskets, don't copper spray. Make sure your block and head are perfectly flat. Make the surfaces clean enough to do surgery on the on them or at least eat off of. Copper headgaskets don't work worth a crap unless you have an O-ringed/receiver block/head, so do you expect some copper goo to hold back 2500psi of cylinder pressure? It CAN do more harm than good. I would only use copper spray or a sealant to stop oil drain hole style leaks that cars like Hondas get at the corners of their heads. If you insist on spraying your entire headgasket with something, at least use a product made for that, it's called Hylomar and Valco sells it in spray cans. It's made for headgaskets and it can handle higher temperatures than copper spray. Or go buy a nice new Cometic MLS, they come with a Viton sealing layer on them, they don't need to be re-torqued, and when installed CORRECTLY to FLAT surfaces, they will handle 40+ psi no problem.

+1 The bolts stretch when you torque them down. Then stay stretched when you remove them. Then stretch even more when you re-use them.

Stock head bolts are stretch-to-yield, meaning when they are torqued once they stretch. That 76ft/lbs you put on them this last time more than likely was far less than that.

The act of torquing down stretch-to-yield fasteners goes like this. First, the underside of the fastener head is lubricated, and the bolt is torqued to the minimal level; then using a torque angle socket a specific amount of additional twist is applied to the bolt. Often, the twist is added in two steps, like on the cylinder head bolts.

Get ARP head studs, use a new head gasket, torque to 95ft/lbs. Do it right for once and quit disassembling your car to fix problems that should not have occurred in the first place!!

Nah i had arps on my 6bolt, but havent done it on this block yet. Prior to all this bent valves and swapping to 1g head, the compression was exactly 125 across the board.

Just buy a honda and daily drive it and DON'T modify it since that's where your car seems to go wrong
