Re: My Evo IX dyno session
As far as I can tell there is no reason not to like MIVEC.

Re: My Evo IX dyno session
That's pretty sweet! what other "free" mods can you do to that thing?
|
Re: My Evo IX dyno session
Nice numbers for the moddage!!

Re: My Evo IX dyno session
Congrats, lookin good!

Re: My Evo IX dyno session
variable cam timing is one of the only wonders on technology on a car that i like.
MIVEC is the bomb, i cant wait till someone figures how to put this on a DSM, and also make the head flow like crazy. |

Re: My Evo IX dyno session
^well you just stated 2 good reasons, 1. HK(dollar sign), no argument about the quality or outcome of their product, but when is the last time you doubled the cost of a car for a little bit of power?
2. It cost as much as the damn car, obvious reason not to do it. But honestly can you find it for me, i would love to see it. Compared to hondas, dsms seem to be really restricted by the head flow, if the cost of the HKS conversion head was close i would be surprised to not see more do it, but i guess at that cost a fully built head will flow more or just as much. |

And tons of people spend the cost of the car for a little more power. It all depends on the budget of who is playing, and how strongly they feel about what they want to do. I just did a quick search for it, but no luck. I may have it in a magazine somewhere. |

Re: My Evo IX dyno session
oh sorry mo, i read it again, that came across wrong.
i searched HKS site no luck. well as you all know, my dsm is about the budget, so far so good. I didn't know floppy. But i am sure there is more reason than Honda's make so much more power than DSMs for power on the same setup than just cams. SO whats next kracka? evo exh. cam? what else? some of that free ecu stuff scheides was posting about? I was telling my bro, it looks like evo's are gonna be like hondas with all the crazy stuff they have for them. |
Re: My Evo IX dyno session
I bought the BC 280 exhaust cam from Swifty, I need to get an intake cam to match though.
|
Re: My Evo IX dyno session
Throw that cam in there while you're waiting! What could possibly go wrong?
|
Re: My Evo IX dyno session
MIVEC is decent, tuning it on Evo 9s with stock cams mostly helps lower-mid RPM performance. If you had some aftermarket cams ground with the lobe centers retarded too far, then you would have more room in the upper RPMs to play around with tuning the MIVEC up there. At least it doesn't have to be tuned in a way overly complication way like the variable cam stuff found on the newer K20 Honda motors. MIVEC isn't as cool or have the power potential of the old school Honda VTEC though.

Stock DSM cams have around .349" intake/.350" exhaust lift. Most normal aftermarket cams will be in the .400"-.410" lift range on the intake. A bigger cam(like the Crower Stage 4 415 Race or the FP3x) that will still drop in without major modding done to the head will have around a .425" lift. A drag race only cam that requires moving the valve guides deeper into the head to keep the retainers from hitting the valve seals and some serious consideration about valve to piston clearance might be in the .450"-.490". Then you have a stock S2000 cam that has a .498" lift on the intake. |
Re: My Evo IX dyno session
Is this what helps evos make so much more power out of the box than dsm's?
Just looked up some specifics: My HKS 280's have 10.8mm/10.2mm (.425"/.408") of lift (272's are the same). HKS 272 DSM cams are 10.3mm/9.8mm (.405"/.385"). |
Re: My Evo IX dyno session
I hate you chris. I put down 333 on a dynojet with a much longer list of mods then you.
Anyone of the MN shops wanna give me a free tune if i drive my car to MN? (if my car makes it to MN) |

Re: My Evo IX dyno session
nice numbers, it should be a fun car to drive.
on the same dyno my VIII put down 30hp less with a 2.3L and cams. The IX head and turbo make a nice difference. |
