Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
Hrm, seems to run a little lean, anyone else back me up on this? Or maybe because it's such low boost it doesn't matter....
So what's teh difference between stage1 and stage2? add a meth kit and more boost? different pulley? Xfactor, did you order one yet?!?! ;) |
Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
I guess it's actually just a reconfiguration of the Stage 1....
"This is the RIPPMODS Supercharger Drive System (SDS) being tested for the first time in Stage 2 form. Stage 2 has additional fuel adders our Black box and BRAT engine management. We added our RIPP Boost Cooler, Meth injection system. Producing an impressive 400WHP at 8psi this kit will be our entry level system. This test was performed with the RIPP headers in place and the addition of a 3.0" exhaust and no cat." Wording from the youtube video. |
Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
Why not just sell the 4g, and put that money for the SC into buying an evo. ;) You're car is still auto, and im sure it wouldnt like that added power too long.

Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
I just got pricing info from RIPP... 4200 for the stage 2.

Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
Holy shit, piezo knock sensor, that is some advanced shit! And quoting EGTs!
Anyways, I will quit being an ass. That kit would actually be better traction wise compared to a turbo, supercharges like that don't make instant boost like a roots or twin screw. They make max boost at max RPM. A turbo would come on much harder and could reach max boost by 3000RPMs instead of 7200RPMs. They must be doing something right to still be making their kits. The first ones for 3Gs were a mess and detonation nightmare, but that was before the "Black Box". |

Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
MMMM... Supercharger lag. As Shane said, probably better for traction anyways.
Side note, I can only imagine the ECU is capable of being flashed like an EVO’s, I wonder how long it will be before people crack the code. |

But a Porsche would be a good upgrade. :) |
Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
Nah I mean I understand your point... and I understand at the same time that I am driving a sport coupe. But i've already redone the suspension and put a decent amount of time into it, other then possibly building the engine up a little to have it tailer made for boost something like this is almost the only logical next step if what my goals are include more power.
I guess my motives stretch much further then just power though, I went for the 4G because of the looks. I actually held an EVO in one hand and held the 4G in another and weighed my options, and I decided I wanted the comfort and style the Eclipse had. I like the EVO body and all, but I have to say in my own opinion I like the 4G much better for looks and comfort. But of course, since buying my car (at it is my first step into the modding world) I got bit by the performance bug. I'm not jumping on board with this project yet, but currently, after looking at it for 6 months now and not really considering, with the new developments my mouth is watering a little. Plus I would take a huge hit if I sold my car, I would be lucky to break even on my loan. |
Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
The changes are:
Smaller SDS pulley Boost cooler (meth) Tune Cooler plugs |
Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
for the money go with the stage 1 get a meth kit for that
|
Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
Holy low end torque! Can we say wheel spin??? hahaha. I understand the boost won't come on that hard, but with ~225 torque at 2400 rpm in a fwd car, I think the tires would be a litle inclined to spin.

Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
Can you tweak the auto to launch from 2nd or rev limit somehow in 1st gear to help with traction? IDK. It would be a blast on the street but track would be tough it seems.
Everyones got an Evo now days. Stick with the 4G so we can see what they're made of! |
Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
They just need an AWD 4G.
|
Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
It would've been nice. Can only hope the next generation will have it though, they won't be doing anything radical with the 4G. The new SE was their last lame attempt to the 08 model. It wasn't really lame but there was nothing truly significantly good.

Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
Wow, I can say that I would be *very* interested in a 400whp, supercharged 3.8L AWD coupe!
|
Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
is the 3.8 a narrow or wide block. The evo rear end will go in easy but the evo tranny not to sure with the 3.8

Re: RIPP 4G SDS Stage 2
I'm too much of a noob to know the difference. :(

I know you guys just add the 2 additional injectors, but how is the reliability on that? Instead of just replacing the stock fuel system? Since you brought up SRT 4's, their stage 3 kit fully replaces the stock fuel injectors, fuel rail, and fuel pump. It also costs about the same. Not trying to point fingers, but they seem to be getting more for their money, with somewhat same performance. (stage 1 SDS vs their stage 3 turbo kit.) Mostly just asking about the reliability and stuff of adding 2 injectors vs upgrading the stockers, I don't even know what the stockers are capable of." The stock injectors are map-able to about 3psi then as boost comes up we pulse the supplementals in. When we do our initial testing we monitor exhaust temps on each cylinder to make sure the intake manifold equally distributes the extra fuel properly. In this case it does so beautifully. Reliability has been 100% so far, we've been supplying this set up for 3 years and its proven to be the most user friendly keeping all things in consideration:
The Stage 3 "R" produces 310whp on pump gas and 360whp on race gas. We've seen it on the DYNO at least 20 times. If you add a good waste gate to it in creeps up to 380ish! But remember that car comes with Force induction and 225whp stock. As an N/A car you guys are "supposed" to spend more. The example was just an exercise in performance per dollar is comparison to what we see. We've installed headers, air filter and ECU tuned a new ZO6 and it made 549whp... but thats $70-80k BRAND new lol. Tech Does this seem legit? Anyone know anything about additional injectors being reliable and stuff?/ |
