My brother is in South Korea right now but in 8 months he is going to be stationed in Japan. He told me to save my money but i don't know if I can wait. I want to but a dsm or should i try and give him seven thousand dollars for a car. Maybe a skyline which would be hella cool.

HAHAHA, Austin are you talking about that dude from ebay who always sold stuff from japan for pretty cheap, and i think his ebay name was JAP ANDY?

jimwross 02-23-2004 11:59 PM

< i already am one (topic) haha.

Anyway, don't get to excited not everything is "cheap" there. :-)

IndiEP 02-24-2004 11:04 PM

Yeah thats exactly who I'm talking about. Pretty much all he sells are bovs and small stuff that go for under 100 but shipping is around 25.00. The exchange rate isn't that outstanding either, USA $1.00 = 108.131 Yen

Lucky man. I was stationed in NAF Atsugi Japan in the late 90's. Don't waste any time on anything other than a Skyline or Silvia. They rock! I owned a '84 R30 Skyline GT. Inline 6, 5 speed, Turbo and RWD. It was a blast! Watch out for Okinawa. It's a nice place but there have been many marines that have raped and or killed Japanese women. So the feeling towards Foreigners (Gai-jin's) is not that good. I am sure it all depends on who you surround yourself with. Most of my friends were/are Japanese. They are great people and will be your friends for life if you treat them like you want to be treated. My wife is Japanese too. Things are not necessarily cheaper in Japan. But you can get good deals. Keep you ear to the ground for any junkyards. That is were the JAP ANDY gets his parts. When I was there the rate was 141yen = 1.00 buck. Anyway, best of luck and post some pics of your Skyline or what-ever when you get there.

Thanks for serving. I appreciate it.

Howie

ya im in the marines, so i know about all those issues. But I'm still gunna make the best of it. I've been asking a lot of people about the policy on bringing back cars and no one knows. I guess I'll just find out when i get there.

good luck with it..... i say you buy a car and save up to ship it back just in case.... i've heard of people bringing back skylines and such from japan so it can be done.... good luck and hope you get one! :3gears:
