Personally I'd spend the money on future expansions and get the twin disk when you need it. The good old 2600 can handle a lot of abuse.

What theoretical advantage(s) does the Tilton have over the other brands to justify the cost?

Tilton has lots of friction surfaces available. The full carbon they offer is like 4500 bucks.

Tilton is for ballas. Not a DSM'er. It's just nit needed. You can get a single disc to hold the power you want. I needed a new clutch, after burning out the old 2600, and decided that I didn't want a twin, for the cost, and for the fact that it's just not fun to drive in every-day living. So, I went with a southbend pressureplate, and an FE disc. Tractor-pulling material on one side, and ceramic on the other (correct me if that's wrong?). Anyway, it's the same clutch josh ran in his stealth last year/this year, and with the exception of the 6-puck part, also the same as John for his galant. Even twin discs can slip (Kyle's did at the last dynoday) but I guess it's all up to you and how deep you want to sink your teeth.
