Re: Fire!!!!

I had the same thing happen although my rubber oil line melted, luckily I had a fire extinguisher in the car. It could have gotten very bad.

In a different car, I had the center bottom stud that holds the exhaust manifold on fall off. There is an oil port behind it where the oil from the head drains back into the block and it started dumping out igniting on the turbo housing. That was on my 21st b-day... What a happy day that was 100 miles from home.

Damn, that sucks alot. I hope nothing is too messed up and it's repairable.

Re: Fire!!!!

Yeah for once I feel bad for you I hope damage is limited to hoses and plastic nothing to mechanical and if so be its the wiring harness ugh good luck i'm pretty sure we've all been there and done a wiring harness and don't want to again.

How long was it on fire? You hang out with to many people that are afraid to whip it out and piss on the thing or what?

Re: Fire!!!!

It was only on fire for a couple minutes maybe 10 at the most. Enought to completly melt the A/C fan and melt the fan blades off of the other radiator fan. (metal one)
I would have whipped it out but at first we thought it was a gas fire being that there were drops of fire going onto the ground.
One of my friends wanted to yell out "NAWSSSS!!!!"

Jesus Tom, I commend you for manning up to your screw up but Jesus!?!?

Glad you and your buddy didn't get hurt.

This reminds me of the LSE dyno day from a year or so ago where the guy with the red 1g pulls up hops out of his car and says "Hi, my car is on fire" we laughed and then realized he was serious. Similar sort of issue, leaking oil feed line.

Fucking yahoo's with shooting oil at hot exhaust manifolds...

:score008:

Sorry to see your car caught fire Tom, hopefully most of it is okay.

Someone should make a sweet owned pic of that 3rd one you posted, it would be tradition with the random pics of the old schoolers doing dumb stuff/bad situations.

You'll look back on this and laugh later, glad you are fine.

A simple caption of "This is why I'm hot" would do wonders for that pic.

Last year at Fun Ford Weekend in Dallas some guys were having fuel line issues with a Cobra. After thinking they had fixed the leak they left the Texas Motorplex and went out on the highway to make a couple of quick pulls to check it out. While in the middle of a high speed pull the fuel line spewed fuel all over the engine compartment and the car burst into flames. Before they could get the car stopped the fire had engulfed the car. The driver and the passenger didn't make it.

When dealing with flamable fluids in your car, don't cut corners.

Always, and I mean ALWAYS keep an extinguisher with you. They're ~$10-15 bucks and it could save your car, or your life.

You were lucky, count your blessings.

Oh yeah, you gotz to be a stuuuuupid mother fucker to use rubber hose to feed a turbo.

:)

Wow sorry to see that happen right after you were just about done. Hopefully the turbo is ok along with the other big stuff.

I think the stock fuel lines would have likely burned and probebly destroyed everything. Luckly i have SS Braided lines that looked to be unharmed.
I and a lot of the people i hang out with used to think it was rice to have a fire extinguisher in the car, pretty much every one of my friends went out and bought one the day after this happened.

yeah i was pretty stupid, it wasnt mainly because i used a rubber hose to to the oil feed line, but more-so that i didnt yank hard on the line to make sure it was secure.

I was going to have my girl friend get in a bikini and pose in front of the car and put the same "This is why im hot" caption, but shes a little shy.

Re: Fire!!!!

The rubber fuel line is where you went wrong. Whether it was tight enough or not wouldn't have made a difference. Rubber fuel line can't take the heat or pressure it encountered on the turbo oil feed.

Maybe because she's a boy?

That cobra driver in texas should have turned off the car to shut off the fuel pump(s).
