Re: Setting Up Cam Gears For A 2.4L
Alright, I get it now. I guess I was not thinking about the dowels and the camshafts themselves(I was just looking/thinking about the gears). Thank you for clearing that up!

Re: Setting Up Cam Gears For A 2.4L
So I bit the bullet and bought new 2.4 gears.
Now I put the belt on and the crank and oil gears dont line up. What do I do? they either line up before or after the mark never right one http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/500/000_0094.JPG http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/500/000_0092.JPG http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/data/500/000_0093.JPG |
Re: Setting Up Cam Gears For A 2.4L
Well for one thing, your crank is not exactly pointing at the mark. Line it up correctly and see if everything comes up straight.
Secondly, put the tensioner in place to remove the slack in the belt. You can't trust anything with slack in the belt. |
Re: Setting Up Cam Gears For A 2.4L
If I line up the mark on the crank the cams dont line up. I put tension on the belt with one hand and had no slack and this is where the marks lined up.(i just did it quick to see if they lined up). But when I get home from work I will put the tensioner on and check it agian.

I can guarantee you that the tensioner will put a lot more pressure on that belt then your hand will.
By looking at the pics I'll take a guess and say the cams are one tooth retarted compared to the crank. Crank and oil pump look OK, just slightly off the mark. Are you running balance shafts? If not, the oil pump timing will not matter. |
