Dang I lose. Too used to the 1G setup.

Mine is a 7bolt and my CAM sensor sits in the same spot as a 1g, right next to the thermostat housing. I guess I thought they were in the same location on all 4g63's.

well its not cranking fast enough.... and clutch seems to not release all the way???? could it be in the clutch system????
compression is
#1: 30 psi
#2: 35psi
#3: 25psi
#4: 40psi

could that be from just cranking slow????

Onefast99gsx 02-19-2007 04:49 PM

Re: shoulda done a 6 bolt

The clutch would have nothing to do with the compression numbers. You'd be testing the compression with it in neutral anyways.

You'd get slightly lower numbers with slower revolutions like if the battery was weak but those numbers are incredibly low.

the wheels are off the ground and when i crank in neutral, wheels spin forward, crank in gear wheels spin forward, crank in reverse and wheels spin backwards????

CRANKWALK or clutch???

Re: shoulda done a 6 bolt

even with a jump, crank is still slow.... not close to sounding strong enough to start.....

You obviously have something wrong here. Those compression numbers are way way low, obviously.

Are you cranking with the throttle plate all the way open? Are your cams properly installed?

Sounds like you dont have the clutch assembled correctly. Obviously in neutral your wheels shouldnt move.

How about cranking with the clutch pedal pushed in and properly bled? What does it do then?

bled and all.... does the same and feels really soft....

That's pretty odd. That would be a tranny issue if the wheels are spinning forward in neutral regardless of how screwed your clutch and engine may be.

Johnson just please step away from the car. I hope you don't work on that RX-7. That rotary is going to own you. To bad Acid Drumz is not in town. He could of gave you a hand. Now I know where my dam RTV went damn you Johnson. Good luck man. This cheered me up today.

In the 2g's they are behind the intake cam gear. At least all of the ones I have had. Someone probably put a 1g cas in yours or something unless the 99's are different from the 95-96.

2g clutches are bled different from 1g.

1 Attachment(s)
Mine is a '99 and it's the original cam sensor that's on the opposite end of the cam gear (passenger side) like a 1g -see pic of my engine

i wish mine did.... id a done the 6 bolt!!!!!

Re: shoulda done a 6 bolt

I think that even though its in neutral the wheels will spin. Do it and have someone try to stop it, it shouldnt be hard at all.

johnson 02-19-2007 11:12 PM

Re: shoulda done a 6 bolt

i did and it wasnt hard, but when i cranked in reverse, it spun in reverse???

Re: shoulda done a 6 bolt

Of course the wheels are going to spin when you crank it over in gear. When you're in neutral, they should not spin at all. If the transmission worked before you pulled the engine, you've probably screwed up the shifter assembly where it ties into the transmission. Crank it over and play with the transmission under the car, putting it through the different gears. You should be able to find your problem there. If not, I have no clue.

Re: shoulda done a 6 bolt

You need to figure out why you're compression numbers are so low. Recheck the timing belt. If that's good, well then you have some other problems, and that head is probably going to have to come off at a minimum.
