Re: Project Fast Spyder
I don't mean to hate on the project since it is a really fun looking build, but why are you bolting the rear end to the car? If I were you, I'd definately weld them in!!

Re: Project Fast Spyder
We talked to John Gosh about machine work last night.

Re: Project Fast Spyder
Wow that is very nice and looks hella cleaner then the stock wiring. After doing all that do you think it was easy with the engine out or do you think you can do it with it in? I am for sure doing this as a winter project. Another question what was the total cost so far of what you needed for doing that? And I like to see a far shot of the engine bay of it too. Looking very nice keep up that great work. And yes post more pics. And Get R done.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
I will get you a wide shot later on. The total cost for the wiring was...
extra wiring harness-$50(was not nessesary) wire loom-$50(25ft of every size-ebay special) Solder and heatshrink-$30 Elecrtical tape-$15 So Total about $150 but like I said the harness was not nessesary I though it would be but it wasnt. Also I spent a total so far of maybe 70-80 man hours doing it. |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
For comparison, I spent 80 dollars on an engine harness from a 1G. You got a good deal on that harness, and anyone else buying one shouldn't have to pay more than 50 bucks.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Yah it was pretty cheap. But this was for the fuse box harness, usually the one for the engine is more(with all the sensors and junk).
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
are you done yet? I would have had that done weeks ago.

haha ouch... Well I don't have to worry about buying a new harness. Because I have one off of my other engine. Thanks for the info. I'll look foward to that wide shot. |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
Yah he's just being a bitch. What you guys dont know is that Im probably closer to being done then he is :).
UPDATE: Installed the AWD gas tank and Fuel lines. I need to get a welder to my house to do more. Here are some pics. Re: Project Fast Spyder
How did you go about labeling the wires before cutting them? Did you use a certain color of electrical tape so that you didn't need to guess which wire matched up with which wire after it was brought back in the car? Black, blue, and brown look exactly the same and with the right amount of grease, any color can look like black.
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
What you dont want to do is cut a bundle of wires. I cut each wire one at a time then shorten them and soldered. But mostly went by the color of the wires. Took some break cleaner on a towel and wiped them off if they were full of dirt/grease.

Re: Project Fast Spyder
thats a ton of work but it will be clean... now for the clean factor i would ditch the ac (hey its a soft top) and then do an alternator relocation. also, I would maybe ditch the power steering or come up with a custom set-up to mount that in back to... that would really bling up the engine bay and it would also help in keeping your bay looking empty
|
Re: Project Fast Spyder
I have been debating about the AC. I will keep power steering for sure because Im a pussy :). As for the AC we will see how often I use it this year and that will deside if I keep it or get rid of it.

Re: Project Fast Spyder
Thurs Jesse came over and welded up the brackets for the driveshaft. I didnt realize that the carpet fell back into place and was right where we were welding...
http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/CIMG1292.JPG I was scared and wasnt thinking and put the fire out with my hand :). Now I have like 7 blisters from being burned. But just another reason to start on the BLACK interior project. Anyways Sat before the dyno day I bolted up the rear end, and today I finished putting all the suspension parts together. http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/000_0090.jpg http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...m/000_0091.jpg I wish the car that this came off of wasnt soo rusty but owell. |
Re: Project Fast Spyder
you should have had everything sandblasted and powder coated, oh and from my experience with spyders, unless you drive with the top up 90 percent of the time and the windows closed we never used my friends ac last summer.... just thought i would let you know
