I love driving the 240 on nights like this. I got some pretty weird looks from some truckers tonight when I made a pass through a parking lot to make sure it was clear, then a couple mins later come flying through it sideways

I didn't have much time last night to go out and play, so I just stopped by the old abandoned Northwest Athletic Club off of hwy 100 & france ave...big empty parking lot. Let's just say that there wasn't much untracked snow on it after the evo was done! Got to play with the various active diff options too, that was pertty neato!

Yesterday in LSE's MR we couldn't tell the difference.

I had fun myself in the bare parking lot at the bowling alley last night. Didn't want to get too out of hand since I was in St. Paul. Probably scared the shit out of someone in their parked SUV as I went sideways past them.

Not really. The different modes are more so meant to affect the time it takes to uncouple the front wheels from the rear. The diff locks up under any sort of acceleration, deceleration, turning, breaking, etc. It then unlocks as soon as the car is going straight (Tarmac mode). In gravel(also rain) mode, it will wait a few seconds (3-4) before uncoupling the diff. In snow mode, it will wait 8+ seconds to uncouple, so that it is more ready to send power to the rear.

There is also different amounts of pressure holding the clutchpacks together in the various modes. Tarmac is the highest, then Gravel, and then Snow is the weakest. What the various pressures are, I am not sure. There is an excellent write-up over on evom:

Snowing like a bastard here in central WI. I'm too good to my 2g to take it out in the winter. Is AWD screwing around as fun as some people insist? If it wasn't for the salt, i'd take her out.

Dammit! Now i might have to go out there, all the salt is probably below the ice we got yesterday anyways. I have never even rode along in anyones awd car in the winter.

This is the first winter I've had an AWD car and it is fun as hell.
