Nice generalization. Sears is actually equipped with tire machines that have no metal to metal contact. Yeah, accidents happen and yeah it is a bitch to get your money but you got it right? [quote]

Not to be an ass but I use to work for them, so generalization is out of the question. This must be something new that they have a no metal to metal contact tire changer. Everyone of the one I see have metal to metal contact. Anyways I was just giving info that I have full knowledge of.

metal to metal contact? I assume you mean the lip of the rim, contacting the head of the tire machine? Because, most of the industry has switched to hardened rubber heads, for that very reason. We swapped them out at my old job, and Even with the metal head, I never once scratched a rim. It's all on the operator of the machine. You just need to adjust the head on the machine to be spaced from the rim correctly.

Exactly, I was also refering to the plastic inserts that go on the rim clamps. If they are used there is no way to scratch a rim aside from dropping it.

We can also us the lug centric adaptors when balancing so you dont have to worry about scratching the wheel with cones.

There is a standard in the tire industry for certain services. You are going to pay pretty much the same price no matter what tire chain you go to. 2.99 per valve stem is the going rate, $2 disposal is prefectly normal too.

I am not here to argue about which shop is better, I just know from experience at my Sears location that we have some top notch techs that know exactly what they are doing.

I've heard theres some real idiots working at that Sears:)
