I would guess somewhere around $9000

Matt D. 01-08-2004 04:08 AM

You guys who added in regular and unscheduled maintenance, labor (dyno time included) and other general costs associated with owning a car shouldn't even be here if you're going to whine about how much you've spent or are spending to own a car, let alone a DSM money pit. Parts and hard items are the only things you should ever add up when finding out how much you truly have spent on your car(s).

In all, I am going to spend less than $5000 on my car, built engine, and a lot of other goodies. The end product will result in a car capable of over 300whp and mid-12 second 1/4 mile runs... But who cares, read the sig. ;)

If you want to look at just the price of the Car and then the cost of Upgrades only . And No Labor Cost's.

Going off the my MN.dsm.org profile (part for part) - per my reciepts

Cost of Car - $13,500
Interior - $2382
Stereo - $5345
Exterior - $990
Performance - $11,063
Total=$33,280

4 Years of Labor Work - $16,000 (doesn't include work I've done or free help from friends)

The Rest is:
-Repairs - $17,000
-GSX - $5000

copper_gst 01-08-2004 09:10 AM

$7,000 for car
$1,500 for rims
$10,000-$12,000 Performance

All well worth it.

SlowWhite 01-08-2004 10:29 AM

4Jenny's Car

Car - $1500
Interior Mods - $60
Stereo Mods - $1653(includes price of stuff waiting to be installed)
Exterior Mods - $120
Performance Mods - $3508 (Includes cost of Mods that came with car($475) and Shep tranny)
Total = $6865

All said and done with labor/OEM parts, etc $8208 would be the total of Jenny's car so far.

In reality to get her car up and running only: $4443
-Car
-Shep Tranny
-ACT 2600 clutch
-60K tune up (tensioners,belts,waterpump,gaskets,Fluids)
-NEW head
-ARP's
-Labor I had to pay for

Still needs some body work/paint but Hopefully won't be more then $500

Does that include the 2G? or just the 1G?

-brian

Nash 01-08-2004 01:27 PM

That just includes my 1G. The topic is "What's The Total You've Spent Your Your Car?". Not What's The Total You've Spent Your Your Cars?. I'm not even going to figure out the total spent on all of my DSMs.

SlowWhite 01-08-2004 01:54 PM

HAHA your right.

looking at it that way the total for my GSX.

CAR - $5000
Interior -$2382
Stereo - $5345
Exterior - $990
Performance - $11063

=$24,780

I like this the amount keeps getting smaller vs. Getting Higher!!!!

Exageration vs. Reality

Glad I could help. ;)

Beating a car that has 75k into it, priceless :)
Its like the saying goes, "how fast do you want to go today? How much do you have to spend?"
The goal is 10's with less than 20k into car, pump gas.

That's pretty impressive when you consider my 75K car only runs 14.4 in the 1/4 mile hahahahah.

Plan on a re-match this summer once the cars are tuned

0-140 down france is just nuts. That race would have gone on for ever. It was dead even. But with the Cars coming up you know I had to let off.

JiN 01-08-2004 02:42 PM

I'm taking a rough estimate of around 20k.

I wasn't exagerating when I said I've spent over 70K in this hobby.

anyone that knows what the first 2 years of my dsm carrier were like knows I'm not kidding. hehe

But I was racing every single night back then and getting as much video as I could while doing it.

Those were the days back then. NO FNF, DSMr's were the Best group of people, Most parking lots on Uni were open/free of hastle, Red Rock was awsome no dumb @$$'s, And the cops actually stopped so that they could look at our cars vs. to give us tickets, Frizbee, football.

Hell I even once flew my R/C helicopter inverted down University Ave. Back when Speedwerks was still opened.

IF you want to go back even farther Hell MIAC, Xrated, Volksport were the only import clubs in MN.

jd1828 01-08-2004 09:16 PM

ive spent about $3000 on my 92 talon. $2300 on the car and the rest on parts and mods.

hince why I have $800 into brakes, its a good 'just in case mod'.
A few years ago the scene was quite different, everything was more layed back, and competition wasn't as fierce. Oh well, we'll run again this year.
Lets do it at the track, that way you have a fighting chance :).
