I assume these are different than the ones on their website, since you said that these were coated. Were they more than Buschur's version?

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

They were more money yea...but its AMS, to be expected.

AMS said they have tested them up to 800whp on the X and they have used them on 1000whp+ builds on the 8/9. The AMS spec ones simply handle more power.

Not sure the exact differences, but here is some bullet points from the AMS website about the ones i got:

* Specially designed quench area that improves power and reduces the chance of detonation
* Annular pin hole grooves with double forced oil holes to prevent pinhole galling
* Taper lands to prevent scuffing
* Extra thick lands for superior ring groove support under extreme pressure
* 4340 taper bore, hard-chromed extra heavy duty pins for high strength and low weight

Taken from the AMS spec ones from the IX, should be the same features though.

Most aftermarket pistons will hold plenty of power, but detonation will kill anything.

True...but the AMS ones were in stock ready to go...I just want a car to drive while there is summer left!

Hell ya! Got an oil cap and a pc'ed valve cover and all now...also an SSP coil cover too :)

Haha, anything by AMS though is usually the highest of quality though. I would have done the same thing, I feel your hurt (of missing a fast vehicle).

Should have stayed with the manley's. Then DB could have got mine done while you were waiting. :P LOL jk.

I haven't read up on this fix yet. What exactly is it attempting to correct?

When you go over 30psi you'll get a whole lot of lights on your dash along with the 'ASC off' indicator. Your fancy drivetrain features will remain disabled until you shut the car off.

On a hot E85 tune this will get disabled on every drive (like for Dave). What's interesting is that this turned out to be the same fix for MR owners as well. The ECU would stop sending data to the tranny secondary ECUs and that'd cause them to go into limp mode.

The assumption is that this is a safety feature but obviously it was based on the power output capability of the stock turbo at that psi, anyway...

Kracka 07-15-2010 04:14 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I wonder if Mitsu chose ~30psi since that's near where the stock MAP sensor maxes out at?

Nice, did he post that just now, or PM you that?

Yea it's the stupid ASC light problem all the people running high boost get.

Another reasonable guess. Consensus is that it reads to 33. They haven't found the tables for going to a 4bar yet. I've got one of those sitting and waiting, as well.

Found that in SSP's thread on his MR. The fix is the same, apparently.

Yup, its a 3.3 bar sensor. It's actually the same one that came on the JDM IX's. The "JDM" sensor I ran on my IX was actually just a an Evo X one I got from Brookdale Mitsu.

My new SSP clutch master cylinder finally shipped out today. My relay pack from the Mitsu TSB shipped from them yesterday so i should get that today.

Dropped my AMS front motor mount insert off at DB's carcraft tent on Saturday when I was there just in case by some miracle the motor was going to go in soon, didn't want to create extra work for them.

Man am I getting ancy...can't take it anymore!

Should be it from my understanding, not sure where the engine is for status, hopefully getting close :)

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Well couple slight hang ups. Cosworth Rod bearings had to be sourced, no vendors had them in stock, so I had them 2-day aired in since I am guessing these are holding the build up at this point.

Talked with FP...the upgrade was $1099 with the porting I got and a slight hiccup, they decided they wanted to do an oil line upgrade kit with the Black so they are developing it right now and said it would be ready for shipment tomorrow at the latest it sounded like. So nothing too terrible, just more money needed to be spent, something like $150 at worst for the oil lines.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

Just full coverage...if something happens it happens. I will steal the motor out of it if it gets wrecked, but I don't want to pay a super high premium and after looking at what Lomkers figures were it has to be a special insurance to get what you want, pass.

I haven't done it yet. I have +$5k coverage with Progressive. American Family quoted me +$20k for another $75/mo.

I ain't worried about wrecking, I'm worried about the whole car being stolen. You're right...not the end of the world if you have the car to pull parts off of.

I doubt mine would get stolen, it will spend most of its time in garage, but hey it could happen i suppose. I will look into some of it, but doubtful i do anything. it isn't too flashy though.

Same deal for me. I don't think car theft is that common around here relative to other cities. Those are the questions that I'm weighing. If I lost this car then I couldn't afford to mod another one, that's all.

Yea, should still be the first X on E85 with the black...

It couldn't be worse people they gave it to, the guys from Espec are such jerkoffs. They show the worst overinflated numbers ever and act like no one can tune as well as Urkel and that everyone elses car is slower...great.

Overinflated? Maybe that's why they chose them! lol
But seriously, a guy would think they would want their newest turbo tested by a more reputable shop like AWD Motorsports, Cobb, or AMS...

Exactly, I wouldn't care at all about those shops, they are great shops. The place they gave it to is such a hack job shop and seriously biggest darshes ever. I will never hear the end of this in PM's. Your tuner can't tune...we make more power on pump than you do on E85...blah blah blah. sigh.

Yeah, they claim to get 490whp on an FP Red on pump gas. 30psi on pump? Motor-blowing tunes to be sure.
