AFE said the non-fouler trick should work.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
I took a good log yesterday of some steady-state cruising and a WOT run from 2k RPM in 3rd gear to the top of 4th and sent it off to my tuner. He hasn't looked at my tune in over a year so I figured I'd let him take a peek and see if any adjustments or tweaks are needed. Nothing seems out of the ordinary, more or less just for some peace of mind and to make sure all is tip-top before doing any cruises this summer. I'm still toying with the idea of those AFE HFC pipes...MAP just happens to have them on sale through this Thursday too, oddly enough ;)

C7 Bin Buddy cubby shelf...OOOOOH AAAAAH!
Pic in action: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...0810171731.jpg Pics for Brandon: http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...810171717a.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...810171718d.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...810171718b.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...810171718a.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...810171718c.jpg The shape of the cubby is definitely irregular which I did not realize. Looking at the finished product and the small details that went into it, the price doesn't seem too horrible considering the fitment was perfect (very snug, almost like it snapped into place). I would say it should also include felt for inside the vertical walls though; I might remove it to add that myself. If nothing else, it should prevent noise or wear marks from sunglasses sliding around. |

Looks nice. Lemme know if you ever wanna make a Kracka Shelf. I can draw that ish up easy.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
After 14k miles/1.5 years, the Redline D4 tranny fluid I put in to replace the factory fluid is showing signs of being worn out. The Shreveport cruise a few weeks ago is likely what did it in. Now I remember why I replaced it annually in my DSMs/Evos :) It feels amazing when fresh, but it does age much quicker than factory-fill fluids. I just got a jug ordered from Walmart.com so I'll get that done later this month.
The clutch system is acting like that fluid is ready for another flush as well. That's a good task for the dealership though so I'll have that done when I have the car in next (likely Feb or March for an airbag recall and annual state emissions inspection). The slave cylinder is inside the bell housing so accessing the bleeder is a total PITA, and the dealer charges a pretty reasonable price for it considering the time involved. |

Seems like this should be a $350 well spent. I'm going to compile all the data I find in one place for future reference:

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
The above performance suspension calibration is a success! I got the car back from the dealer yesterday afternoon after it's annual trip in for service, recalls, warranty work, etc. and had them perform the updated suspension calibration while they were at it. I can't speak to the performance enhancements yet, but all I can say is WOW when it comes to the comfort aspect! The car is now handling sharp impacts and rough roads better than it ever has! I intentionally drove the car on a certain lane on a concrete road near my house that is frankly horrible from all the construction trucks driving on it that I will typically avoid if at all possible. The improvement was night & day; the car stayed planted, felt smooth, and wasn't jumping all over the road anymore. Embarrassed to say it, but I'm actually looking forward to taking the car into a parking lot with speed bumps later on today just to see how it absorbs those. I'm also anxious to get the car out sometime soon to enjoy some nice back road twisties!
In summary, a $350 well-spent! I hope Chevy Performance starts offering more upgrades in the future. They did make a fair amount of Z06 components available for the lower models, such as the grille and radiator fan, which I have both. They also have a new intake system coming out that consists of a new airbox and larger filter (but retains the factory intake tube). |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
That's some cool stuff.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
factory performance stuff is always nice :) Good deal.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Nice! I need a C7. :D
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Yeah you do!
This update is currently available for 2014-2017 models, 2018's got some of the tweaks from the factory, and 2019's got it all. |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Finally decided to chase down one tiny intermittent rattle that's been annoying me since the car was brand new. I took a lot of these panels out and used adhesive felt on quite a few contact points! These sheets of adhesive felt were a life saver in the Evo X interior
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...0322181647.jpg full size pic: http://www.dsmstyle.com/photopost/da...0322181647.jpg Sidenote: Bose speakers are absolute junk and no better than the cheap paper ones found in base model econoboxes. |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Rattles are annoying, hopefully you can find it! That paper woofer stuck out to me right away haha. Bose means nothing these days...
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
The bose speakers in my dad's 06 vette seem decent. Not amazing but above average for a stock speaker. That's a bummer they cheap out there on a 55k+ car.
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Bose seems like the Fram of speakers now a days. Made a name for themselves awhile back, and just riding that brand names wave while now manufacturing crap.

Wait a second... Fram is Bose, Bose is Fram! OMG!! Laces out!
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
lmao. The Bose in my 06 is mid 90s sounding, no bass at all, really tinny trebble. My 04 Audi A4 with Bose was nicer by far. C7 should be great.. my 2010 Terrain has the Pioneer stock system and it sounds great.
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
I too am happy with the Terrain's optional Pioneer system.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Things not to do when parking at a hotel in Houston:
-run into concrete parking curb Long story short, I misjudged how far to pull in and heard a nice CRUNCH/SCRAPE! I got out of the car and freaked out a bit... http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...0429181431.jpg After see that in the hotel parking lot I thought for sure the paint and splitter was ruined, cracked plastic, etc. After doing some clean-up work and close inspection, turns out it's not so bad after all, luckily! No cracks in the plastic, just in the paint. I unbolted the splitter and adjusted it the best I could so it was flush after getting tweaked (it's held on with a combination of bolts and rivets). None of the fasteners were damaged and I didn't see any damage to the plastic splitter, again, only the cracked/scuffed paint. http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...181727_HDR.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...0430181727.jpg http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...430181727a.jpg Nevermind all the bugs on the bumper, after the drive to Houston and back the only cleaning I've done so far has been to the splitter. For now, I think I'm just going to leave well enough alone since it's bound to happen again with how low the car rides. Before drilling out the rivets to have it refinished I'll wait until the paint gets more damaged, starts chipping or flaking off, or gets smashed into a curb even worse. |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Not bad, hardly noticeable after you cleaned it up!
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
I feel like that is a corvette staple, scraping things and hitting the splitter. I know that is a step up from previous corvettes but it was almost impossible not to scrape the front in my dads c6, but I think that was just the undertray deal.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
The factory stereo in my C6 is absolute junk. I ended up buying some decent 6.5 components and made adapter plates for them. But then again, the Bose system in my Tahoe sounds fantastic, so they do some of them right.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
The itch was strong so I had to get something ordered up for the 'Vette before next weekend's annual Shreveport cruise!
I stumbled upon the TMC performance shifter box and knew it was something that fit my needs perfectly since it retains the factory components, just removes the slop (much like my prior stock shifter mods/tweaks did, this just takes it a step further) with a billet end-cap and metal bearings. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ter-boxes.html There are 3 bushing options: polyurethane, Delrin, & metal. I already have polyurethane in the car (replaced the squishy factory rubber) so I opted for the Delrin so I could compare the two. I want to keep noise and vibration down so I do not have any interest in the metal. It should be here on Thursday and I hope to have it installed this weekend. |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Oh nice! Mine has lots of slop too, dont think anythings been done to it. Ill look into that too.
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Peter I think you have the c6 z06 setup which is much better than the base. I believe it uses plastic instead of rubber bushings. But that was 6 years ago so I might be wrong haha.
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Hmm ill have to take a look, not sure the differences. Sure feels a bit looser than Id like. Twss haha
EDIT: looks like all C6 shifters are the same, some Z years had no rubber bushings between the torque tube and the shifter, so they vibrated more. That was revised to all rubber later years. Either way all the shifter seem to wear out and slop over time. |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
This shifter box is compatible with all years C5/6/7. I'll let you know my thoughts, but at $125 I think its a no-brainer! Peter is correct on all the shifter boxes being identical with only the bushings being different (early C6 Z06 came solid metal, but then were revised to rubber just like all the other C5/6/7 models).
I'm torn which bushings to use though, my currently installed polyurethane or the Delrin I'm getting with the box (he supplies your choice of polyurethane, Delrin, or metal). He says his favorite all-around is the Delrin, but I am slightly concerned with it being such a rigid material with minimal give of dampening. |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Here are his 3 threads, all basically the same, but a little different info in each so I did find is beneficial to read through all of them.
C5: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ter-boxes.html C6: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ter-boxes.html C7: https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ter-boxes.html These are the bushings I currently have: https://www.zip-corvette.com/97-19-s...-bushings.html |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
I am old now, so my vote is for the one that gives the most rigidity without being annoying as hell. So might not be Delrin.
How big of a pain is it to swap the bushings if you don't like? If it's easy I'd say start with his recommendation and change if it sucks. |
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Good info! I would think the delrin and poly would be very similar, they are both pretty dense but still have some dampening compared to solid metal mounts.
|
Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!
Peter can you go ahead and purchase/install those before you sell me the car? :D
