TO be honest I'm not sure I know I don't need bigger than a 5858, but a lot of people seem to move up from the 5858 to a 6266 and I want to do a stroker. Plus I came to realization, that I don't drive this car that much and it is more race car than daily driver so why not get a bit crazy with it. Quote:
Another thing that is new is that I'm trying to keep the budget damn low with this, so yeah as long as the shit works I'm down. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Meh, lame update.
But I installed my amp so now my components have some decent sound to them and I'm enjoying it a lot more. I've been driving the car every weekend and enjoying it, it surprisingly fun to turn as well. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Not lame, good quality nakka beats is a must!
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Yeah, it was a better driving in to work today.
However, I have very bad buzzing through the speakers, so I'm going to have to relocate the amp from underneath the stereo to the back of the center console or something. I also decided that I'm going to sell the T3 manifold and go TS T4 and also sell my TCU that is programmed for dual mode and go with the kiggly mod. |

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
T4 BW's are fairly inexpensive :)
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
I wanted to use Twin-scroll specifically
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
BW are usually TS T4 off the shelf. the exhaust housings are usually huge though.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
well finally got off my ass and pulled my wheels off the car now that it is on jackstands for the winter.
I'm also charging my mini battery in the car it was down to 11.6 volts and about 70%. I'm really not inspired to work on the car, but well we still have 3-4 months of winter so we will see what happens. |

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Took me a while to find this thread, but lame update time.
Sold that SFP T3 manifold and picked up a T4 DNP manifold. Sold my longblock. Picked up a 2.4 eagle crank and some std. eagle rods. Still need to clean up the block I have to build. Need to decide 100% where this car is going, either street car with PS, AC and stuff or just go race car since I really have no desire to make a DSM a street car. Plus not like this thing won't see street time either way. Anywho, planning to make it more of a race car and just keep everything incase I change my mind. Not sure when this will be complete, I'm planning on picking up a new car next weekend and then I have a performance driving day at DCTC to go to, followed up novice school. The warm weather did get me outside today though, so hopefully I'll make some more progress with it once it gets warmer. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
You ever sell your tcu? Also who do you have write your chips? Or did you write/burn them?
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Just go all out race car it's not that bad driving them on the street.
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Race car gets my vote. I took out PS and ac in mine. I also plan on street duty to. I did save everything though so in the fall when I sell it as a stock car I can reinstall all that stuff

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Don't do racecar. Things like PS and AC don't weigh much, easier to add more POWAH, you're not going to break much with an auto.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
So i was messing with my DD and was tired of not having room, my friend suggested putting the wheels back on the DSM and pushing it outside.
Well I'm glad that I did, man was it nice to have all that room back again and seeing it on the ground with wheels on showed me how good looking it is and how much I missed it. I'm going to try and make some more progress with it soon. The rain we get tonight/tomorrow should clean off the ton of dust on the car and I need to pull out all of my gauges and get them up for sale. I'm changing the layout yet again since I won't be running a HU. I'm planning on building a motor for now, but if I find a deal on a used built motor then that may find its way in. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
bored and tired update.
Going to try and make some progress on this, I pulled the z-series gauges out to sell (boost and egt) Basically I'm parting out what I don't need or want anymore. I'm thinking that I want to back OG to white faced gauges I've always liked them and luckily it will match the white of the car. I almost found a motor for it, but then the guy said he lives in ID. womp womp. If i can get some spare time I'll be putting more time into it, I'd like to have it up for PG2 and actually race at this event, plus this is looking like the first year I won't race in 7 yrs. :( |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Pulled the PS pump, reservoir, lines to rack. (For sale)
https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...39146116_n.jpg A bit cleaner on that side without anything in the way. We will see if I put it back in or not. https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphot...27230682_n.jpg Closeup of the two holes that I need to plug. https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.n...63632663_n.jpg |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
You don't need to put it back in. Ive put 500 miles on in the last to days and its not a pain at all to drive.
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Lame ballsack update.
I pulled the steering rack out of the car to do the "miata de-power rack" mod. Took me about 2-3 hrs tonight and was the first time I've ever done it. Hopefully this week I can get it done and put back in the car by the end of next week. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Was curious on what you were talking about so I looked it up and found a nice diy, http://www.flyinmiata.com/tech/depower.php?x=1 I've always looped mine, but now you have me thinking of trying this.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Thats a good write up in that link. I think I'm too lazy to do that and would probably just swap to a manual rack lol
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
I should probably close mine up. Lol
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
I'm on the cheap/free mods till next summer, so this is right up my alley.

I must say so far it has been a lot of work and if it wasn't for having help I probably wouldn't do it or come up with another way to drain the fluid and fill the rack full of grease. I need to weld up 2 holes then get a few fittings for the rest of the rack. I also need to get 2 tie rod ends and steering bellows that I guess were ripped already. Luckily I can warranty the tie rod ends. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Yea i was thinking of doing this but would like to here how it feels after the piston/seal is removed,
im in the same boat with do it once and be done, never been to thorough on any of my old builds, and I could tell by all the wrench time, I now have my own house and garage so I have all the time I need to put mine back together the right way the first time. |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
It's a lot of work, I still need to get some fittings to plug a few holes and then get 2 holes in the rack welded.
|
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
Get ready to buy another power rack after the first 100 miles and a McDonald's drive through.
I think I've now replaced every part I took off making my racecar 10 years ago. :D |
Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.
I daily drive my awd talon with welded diff and no power steering, no biggie. I actually really like the feel.
