Yep, 95-96 is different than 97+. Of course you could always sell the xfer case with it and problem solved.

Manual is only more fun on cars that turn. Not sure if Brad does any of that.

But the only problem is trying to get rid of such an expensive trans that only works with '95-'96. And I know if I wanted it to move I should lower the price but I just couldn't stomach losing that much money on it.

Maybe I'll start looking into clutches that are cheaper than twin discs yet still holding power and letting people shift quickly.

The twin is the only reason why my car even shifts at such high rpm right now. The rebuild on those twins are pretty inexpensive. I've been wanting to switch to a auto in my car too. It will be so much faster!! The cost for a good auto build from someone is pretty expensive, and then buying a billet converter is even more expensive!!

hahah I turn, just don't turn very fast! I would LOVE to have a road race car, but drag racing is a lot cheaper and I don't get the whole cone in a parking lot thing.

Maybe I'll call today and see if they can rebuild it for cheap.

I figured the cost of a good auto build is about the same as the cost of a good manual build. Then last time I looked a twin disc was pretty damn close to the cost of a good converter. It all seems like a wash in the end for a quality setup.

Just called Quarter Master, and those guys are the shit! Dude was super cool and said if I send the clutch in they will look it over for free and tell me what all needs to be fixed. Hopefully its cheap and I can get another track pass in before the end of the year!

Yeah, the guys at quartermaster are pretty cool, and not to far away if I remember right! They were just at map a month or so ago and seemed pretty cool! They dropped off a prototype clutch for Kyle's silver evo.

You are welcome to drive my car at an event to try it out. I'll put $20 toward your entry as well.

Yep down in IL. He also said that I should include a picture of the Wife/Gf with the clutch when I send it off. I lol'ed a little bit at that :) I also heard they were working on new disc with a different center section so if those are messed up I might ask about those.

Last I looked at ipt's site their built top notch auto was ~$3200 and a billet converter was ~$1500?

The tranny should work in all years, the output shaft has the same ratio. It is the rear end and transfer case ratio that you need to match up for the year/car.

A lot of those fast auto guys dont have "built" autos. Just converters and home made shift boxes.

Re: Beater 2g

How much power can the stock auto's hold?

If they hold a decent amount, why not just rock a stock auto w/ a high stall, upgraded valve body/shift kit, and a big ass tranny cooler?

Re: Beater 2g

There is a thread on the link forums where everybody lists their auto setups and what not.

Fastest completely stock auto tranny dsm I've seen run is 9.5 and that was with a full line pressure mod and shift box. I can't seem to find the video though..

Re: Beater 2g

You need to talk to Kiggly (Kevin?); he is on NABR and I believe he ran at the last years MAP event, he has the 90 Laser that runs low 8's I believe. He is a master at DSM auto trannies and what they can handle and what not. When I used to have my auto I talked to him a bit about them, he said you just need to get stronger end clutches, stiffer springs in the valve body, a torque converter, shift box, and a Good Cooler and you'll be set. The the torque converter is going to be the most expensive I think.

Re: Beater 2g

I am not nearly cool enough to be on NABR, last time I went there I could look at the duct tape/zip tie thread and that was about it.

We'll see what quarter master says about my clutch and how much it'll be to fix. If everything is fucked I might go auto, I'm far too A.D.D. to even know what will happen to this pile.

All manual 2g's have the same rear end ratios the difference is in the front diff ring gears and t-cases. The 95-96 run a 58 tooth ring gear and the 97-99 run a 57 tooth ring gear. Depending on what tranny you have you hafta get the matching t-case so that both the and rear front wheels are spinning at the same speed and not fighting each other. People have mis-matched t-cases before and burned up the VC in the tranny.
