Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Valve cover off to Primo for a bit of bling, well kinda, wrinkle black, lol
And dropped these off at DB: http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/98729936.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...o26/scan-1.jpg They are technically 1300's, but DW found me a set that flows 1400cc at base pressure:) So I call them DW1400's! |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Picked up a few small pieces from MAP today, nothing crazy...
MAP thermal intake mani spacer Boomba Red Oil cap (one of my few pieces of bling, lomker is worried i am going to start blinging out my evo now ;)) http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/9e64221e.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/0c44f9e4.jpg |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I thought about asking in Scheides thread, but I didn't want to cloud up his when I have my own.
Motor mount, so you guys think just the front should be enough? Is it a power level thing at all? I plan to hit 500 on DB's dyno at one point or another. Any durometer recommendations? Or can I do like what Scheides did and drill some of it out if needed. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I think you'll be fine with just the front. If you do want to do the rear mount then now is the time while the motor is out.
Stiffness is something you'll have to ask yourself, how much engine vibration do you want transmitted to the rest of the car? |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I would get just the front and go with AMS' 70A durometer to start with and drill holes in it if you find it too stiff. With how stiff the X chassis is a 90A would transmit a lot of vibrations to the cabin and become very irritating on a street car. Now on the VIII/IX's a 90A front mount is about right for a street car.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
2nd question then:
i can just get the insert right? or is it really hard to press it in? |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Most shops or TKR Mark can can press it in for you. With a press it only takes a few seconds and probably would cost you a 6-pack of beer at most.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
K, i'll probably order up the front mount to start with.
I plan to 1/4 mile the car though, so i am guessing the front mount will help the most, are the others really that much more helpful? |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
The front alone is just enough to really firm up the shifts. Worry about the other three when you're trying to find that last thousandth of a second ;)

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
NEW SHORTBLOCK IS AT DB!!! Woo finally, now we can get this shit moving :)
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Those pistons will look great in an end-table. :)
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
You know it :)
they would probably make good ash trays, but I don't smoke and don't want people smoking at my house, lol. I want to make them like a coaster or something, but we will see. Once they get the new shortblock assembled, i will probably pick up the old one and bring it home to degrease it and clean it and play with it. |

I'll let you know on the motor mount, maybe I can drop that bracket off that you said you needed (not sure if you still do) and we can do it quick then. |

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Just got this from Brian at Forced Performance, not the greatest of news :(
The two crucial pieces (covers and compressor wheels) I am waiting for are not here and I don't have a firm ETA. Robert was hoping for the end of this month, I think we are just hoping that happens. So, July tuning is probably a no go...now I am starting to get scared for the Cookout...I wanted a month of driving at least but who knows if that will happen now. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Lame.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Is the Red already sold and gone?
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Yep, big time. I was scared when I saw a post about a person who said the FP comp covers were on backorder for the X...so i asked FP and got this, doh!
So now I am guessing the car will be all back together just waiting the turbo hopefully in the next two weeks or so. Maybe I will get lucky and FP will get the parts sooner, who knows. Quote:
I was just worried it was already maxed at 420whp on Shanes and I want more. Edit: Ps. I ordered the front AMS mount earlier this week, or maybe it was last friday. So I will probably run that up to DB when I get it and take some pics of the new shortblock minus a giant gaping hole. Thanks for the info on the motor mount too. Good news is, another month to make money and pay off part of the build, so I won't have to borrow as much at the end. I already paid off part of the build and my new beater car and a lot of the extra parts I have been buying on the side. So its all gravy. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
When FP says weeks, they mean months. I ordered a set of cams in April a few years ago that were "two weeks out," come September I finally canceled my order and picked up a used set.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
lol want more than 420@db. I love the way you guys throw away these awesome numbers, esp for a street car like they are nothing.
FP's customer service has been getting a lot of neg. rep as of late it seems. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Ya im going to guess you will be waiting for awhile. Sucks man!

Our last dyno day we had like one car over 400whp@DB. It's obviously a lot of power. Quote:

It would be nice for a stock turbo X record anyway :) Then throw the black on in September or something. FP isn't too bad, i think they are just like everyone else in the world. Parts are a huge issue right now and they are waiting on their vendors. My field is having lots of issues with parts delays. People are operating on bare bones crews and the orders are going up so things are going slow. My FPred took under a week to get it from FP to me and they ported it. I know 420whp is quite a bit of power and i loved my car at that level, it's just that it still didn't make me feel like the car was that fast. I think it was from DD'ing the car 60 miles a day though, because I jumped in my dad's c6 and it seemed a lot slower than i remember it being. Also the X seems to deliver power a lot smoother than the 8/9's so I think they feel a little slower than they really all, plus all the added weight. |

The only reason I changed out from the red to the black was because i had to pay for the turbo swap in a sense already, so I was trying to piggy back costs. Personally i think I could've hit 475whp with my build on the red with the head work, new cams, new bov etc. But I knew it would only be a matter of time before i wanted a bit more. This build will put me as far as I go though. I think :( |

You are growing a butt dyno. Sometimes its good sometimes its bad.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Honestly I'd say bad, makes all cars feel slow. I am not as easily wowed.
This further adds to my desires to upgrade to get more power. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
We could nitrous the honda with a fiddy shot, that fucker would hit hard and be safe.
H22 plus 100+ shot ftw. |

100 shot still wouldn't be stock evo fast I bet, lol. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
The nitrous hit is awesome, you won't know what I'm talking about until you try it.
I must be underestimating your evo a bit too, I've only been in scheides X and I think fully loaded each time. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Hopefully you don't have to wait as long for a wheel and a housing as I did!
Also daily driving the car will make it feel slow no matter what power level I think. Don't drive it for a while and then go take a girl out for a ride and when she giggles you'll think its a little fast again. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I got a ride for girls to go on, they usually don't giggle though.
