^you are going to pick it up now?
Woo, nice. So what tune is on there now? You just going to baby it or something? |

Re: Evo X upgrades
Nice, well good luck, let us know initial impressions. You need to get tuned soon, if you make enough power maybe it will convince me to keep the X.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I have a dodge spirit that makes an est. 350/350 it spins tires at 85, you interested in one of those?
|
Re: Evo X upgrades
^Thats only on 15psi untuned.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I need a reliable dd, not another turbo car i will spend too much time/money on...i assume you were talking to me.
Back on topic though, don't want to clog his thread up. |

^I am dead serious.
So how is the break-in going? |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Just drove it 35miles back to the office.
No visibility? Check. Louder than hell? Check. Test pipe added a new level. Vibrates and rattles? Check. Motor mounts helped out. I need to get use to all the new sounds... |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Congrats on getting it back, I'm sure it feels good.
Shane is always willing to go that extra mile, there have been nights I've been up there and he's still been around after 10/11 trying to get a tune worked out. You're car was in great hands! |

Hopefully the new loudness drowns out the rattles, i know it did on my car. |

Congrats on getting the car back! Can't wait to see what numbers it puts down. How many miles of break in are you doing?
|
Re: Evo X upgrades
A test pipe makes a car louder?

-- Put 150 miles on it yesterday getting my Dad's car back to him. Next oil change today. The additional lag makes 5th gear easier to deal with. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Went to Valvoline for an oil change...had the whole staff standing around my car and bullshitting. That's one thing that I enjoy about having a car like this.
On the way out of there I tried a 3rd gear pull and holy crap. The untuned spool is pretty late but that also gives it quite a hit when it comes on. The BOV with the upgraded spring is surprisingly loud. |

With track days over the Summer I'll undoubtedly change a few times between 1500 and 4500. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
^Is that because it's thicker and to help with small metal shavings (probably not the best words)?
|
Re: Evo X upgrades
If you want a great break-in oil give the conventional Valvoline MaxLife a try, it is very high in moly count. Most manufacturers add moly to the factory-fill oil to aid in break-in.
|
Re: Evo X upgrades
I have also heard good things about maxlife for break in. Would be easy too since you are getting your oil changes done at Valvoline. I will be using rotalla 10-40W to break in my new engine on the talon.

Fuck dude, do the oil changes yourself and you'll know everything is torqued right and the correct amount (and type) of oil was used. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
^how the hell do u do that? You really did go to 4 yr college for engineering.

I'd thought about dropping by RS but I'd imagine they're as busy as DB is this time of year and something like an oil change is probably a waste of their time even when slow. |

If you cant (or wont) do it yourself then at least take it someplace with competent employees.

Let it be noted that pride and competence are completely separate fields in life though. |

And yes I agree with ability to do a job well does not coincide with pride. There are plenty of people that don't take pride in their work but can do it very well. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
I'm willing to bet there are more DIY oil change fails than chain shop fails. With that being said I still do all my own oil changes and wouldn't trust most shops, but I'm super anal/picky about type of oil and filter used.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I've had a few shit jobs in my day. I was an oil change/tire guy for the first two years out of high school.
I also took a part time job for a while at Computer City when they were still in business. I'd have customers come in and treat me like crap even though I knew way more than they did due to my day job. I was only making like $7/hr there and ultimately quit because I was overqualified and got tired of being talked down to regardless of what I knew. In any case, I have had good luck with this location in Eagan...took my Subaru there for years. The supervisor has a built truck with 400whp. We talked about his setup for a while. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Got the Summer tires on. The Rays lugs were a real disappointment. Their 'secure' lugs uses a design that seems guaranteed to permanently wedge the lug into the special socket if you apply any meaningful torque (like say 80 ft/lbs). Luckily it happened on the first secure lug so I ran to Pep Boys and got a $10 set instead. ftl.
Got the front strut tower bar back on...then went to the car wash. Tomorrow I'm going to try to get the rear tower brace, RalliArt tails and wing on...if there is time. Doesn't look like the weather will be nice enough to bother taking pictures. Nice to have the wheels out of the living room! Bought this cover so that I don't get chewed out for storing stuff on the balcony. Hopefully it looks good enough for them to not hassle me. I already got one lecture from the security guard for changing my tires in the ramp...lied and said that tire was flat (was doing them one at a time anyway). http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs352...._1054022_n.jpg |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Haha that's awesome out on your deck! if they give you crap about them lmk, I have some space in the attic of my garage. Now that I actually have a ladder I've been using it more and more. Jealous about the ralliart tails, those will look nice!
|
Re: Evo X upgrades
Decided to snap a couple crappy pics in the ramp, anyway. I think the width of the tires is pretty much perfect. These are RE30's in 18x9.5 +28 w/Star Specs in 265/35.
I'm not going to get too aggressive with the drop (when I go to Jeff) but I need at least an inch. http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._2719085_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3117330_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6964563_n.jpg |
