Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!

Woohoo! Running and dyno-tuned, very productive weekend! A few minor issues this weekend but nothing serious (o2 sensor, dipstick, and LICP coupler). The tune is done though and she runs/drives/idles incredibly smooth. Calvin @ Cobb does want to do a check-up on the tune and an alignment before the cruise, after the engine gets a few more miles on it (only 115 miles when we dropped it off yesterday).

I'll let Andrew post his results and chart :)

453whp/390wtq @ 27.7 psig

Keep in mind that this engine is still tight with only 115 miles on it when it was dropped off for tuning. We were battling boost leak and couplers popping off all day with a poor fitting LICP and by the end of the day the fuel pump and fuel were beginning to over-heat so we called it a day. Once the engine gets a few more miles on it to loosen up and a properly fitting LICP is installed it will be back on the dyno for a few final runs and adjustments (April 13th, the weekend before the cruise). I expect the end results to sit somewhere closer to the 470whp range once it's able to take a touch more boost and timing, and probably rev out a bit further. It is tuned on Tephra V7 with multiple fail-safes and 91-octane map-switching setup, along with gear based direct boost control. The EF4 has MAP's "25 psig" HP WGA, but I have it just barely pre-tensioned so WGA pressure sits around 17-19 psig, with his 91-octane "safe" map sitting in the low-20's. If a high knock count is ever observed boost will immediately drop to spring pressure. I do love that rock solid boost curve!

So legit! Hella pump gas setup that's for sure. I'm glad all the v7 stuff is being fully utilized, I forgot about all of those little details tephra added.

This is a solid 420 on Shane's dyno. Hella legit.

Nice fat powerband. LOVE IT!

Looking forward to seeing it in action on the MSSC :)

The powerband feels awesome, with the longer gearing it goes on forever!

Ahh that's right, he has the stock gearing with a 4.10 (4.11?) Final Drive?

I think its the HKS 4.11 if I remember right.

Great looking setup Andrew, can't wait to see it on the cruise!

Bad ass! I like the boost by gear and failsafes too, that stuff is cool.

That boost curve is amazing! What do you think helped it out the most to get it to be so solid?

Murlo26 03-25-2013 10:18 AM

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!

Is it true boost by gear or just low gear/high gear boost like the X's have?

Big turbo, good high pressure wastegate actuator, ECU control, and a Grimspeed 3-port BCS...and a competent tuner who knows how to make it all work well together.

True boost by gear, fully adjustable by RPM in all 5 forward gears.

Damn!! I made that on E85 haha. Are you planning to do an E85 tune after a few more miles?

Kracka 03-27-2013 07:54 AM

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!

He hasn't had the greatest luck with E85 in the past. He has mentioned trying out race gas eventually though.

Safety, reliability, and longevity is the name of the game with this build.

Yea but he has an ef4 to your 2.5, bigger cams, and a stroker motor ;). It all adds up!

Murlo26 03-27-2013 09:26 AM

Re: SE take two! Err, make that three!

I consider e85 to be plenty safe, however I guess that could be taken with a grain of salt with the luck I have.

I saw toss in some ms109 for when you wanna go fast if you want consistency.
