Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Well...the insurance info that the guy that rear ended me was bogus...in the sense that his card said he had current insurance but he canceled it right after he got his card.
So now I am probably stuck paying for anything that happened out of pocket...what a worthless system. Oh, scheides, spoke with Robert at FP, no on the HTA86 wheel black :( |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I take it you didn't call the police?
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I have since called them...they wouldn't do anything...my insurance agent is trying to find the guy to see if we can do anything.
Police basically said you need to take care of this yourself...and i asked even though the guy is illegally driving around without insurance...yes they said. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Wow that's BS. Cops are so worthless and are willing to take zero initiative. At least in TX if you're caught w/o car insurance your vehicle is towed on the spot.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Lesson learned about filing police reports, then? Especially since you were injured...
Saw your motor out of the car. Big holes on both sides of the block. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
^really? Wish Danny would've called, i would've swung up there. I guess tomorrow i will go.
Yea, lesson learned. I just wanted to get to work so I didn't want to deal with it. No more trusting people, i will file a police report from now on. You should've snapped some pics. |

Danny was working on that nice truck. It was the younger guy working on your car. Not sure of his name? |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Fair enough, i will see if i can run up there tomorrow after work...i am working far away tomorrow, Gaylord MN...but i usually go in late and leave early those days, lol.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Danny said that there were no signs of detonation...fuel was good.
He said it appeared it broke on the way down, which is good and saved my head. He said it looks like the rod basically formed an S and snapped and caused the failure. Funny, everyone says rod bolts let go on these...that end of the rod is still on there, lol. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Holy shit! So the rod bolts were fine, and the rod actually just let go? That is nasty carnage; great pics! great news on the head and turbo. Does this change your plans at all?
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

It changes it some yes...my head will be getting DB's machinist's race porting when he is in there for putting the oversized valves in and assembling my head. My head should flow rather well after all is said and done :) Especially with the GSC S2's. Otherwise the turbo being fine and the being fine are just bonus's. I was planning on the head being bad for sure, which is 1000 for the core roughly, so i will use that money for supplying other parts of the build that i added in like the new turbo. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I just took a look at it and it doesn't really look like it was a knock/detonation problem. The 3 other cylinders look mint, there isn't aluminum build up in the combustion chamber of the cylinder that took a shit, all the spark plugs look fine except for the one being covered in oil in the bad cylinder.
Rod bolts usually will usually break/stretch from high RPMs when the pistons pull on them on the up stroke and rods usually bend on the down/compression stroke or on the up stroke when you suck in water/blow a HG and fill the cylinder with coolant. |

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Unless it was an oiling problem and it spun a rod bearing and didn't hear it and once the bearing was totally gone the rod stuck to the crank and beat the up the block.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
It would be making the ever popular rod knock noise.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Hmmm, sounds bad...any vids of said noise, i haven't heard that obviously. I am guessing myself or lomker would've heard that if my car was making it.

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I was busy helping scheides with the dyno day when that happened and didn't get to hear it...i'll check out the vids
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Yea, i didn't hear anything like that...but it is really hard to hear shit over my exhaust so who knows.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Alex handed me your piston when I was helping with some other car, and I was like.."is that Dave's?!" wooaa dude. going over your motor today, in a SMALL way, made me feel SORT OF better about mine..it was well enough to race over to BK for lunch..lol.
I know the new build will be better then before. |

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Just bought some new Buschur Center Diff pins to upgrade them in the tranny since it is out now anyway.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Small update:
The Buschur diff pins should arrive to my house today and I am going to bring them up to DB so they can get my tranny over to their guy and get those put in. All of the components for my head have been ordered and will probably show up late this week, early next week I am guessing. The Manley springs/retainers are going to Supertech ones, because the GSC S2 cams that I got have too much lift for the Manley ones, the supertechs are only like 100 more or something. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
wtf, the specs on the S2's aren't insane, how can the manley springs not work? on the 8/9 they're only slightly more aggressive than k272's, which work fine with stock springs. Maybe the dual mivec X cams have some crazy ramp rates or something?
*edit* ya, I see in their catalog it says max lift of .430" = 10.9mm....kinda silly imho. The evo8/9 springs are good for .580" = 14.7mm! How can they make such MANLY springs for the 4G63 and such PUSSY springs for the X? |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
hey dave u brought/kno that guy who had g8 gt at the dyno day right?
they made pussy stuff for pussys. lol jk jk |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

But I looked at the 8/9/X S2's and they are all about the same lift and designed for roughly the same rev range and power levels...400-700whp. Quote:

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
Good bye stock turbo :(
http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/84b4e22f.jpg But here is where it is going... http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...6/12a0b46a.jpg FP Rebuild Form ;) Hopefully I will have this the first or second week in July, just in time for the motor to be going back in :) |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
hahaha, thats funny. Its looks like a kids note to santa.
You know drew O. too? That second part was for scheides about the X springs. |

^lol, 500 is crazy. I need to get a ride in all these Evos.
|
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
I will dish out rides when it is all said and done...however, I am graduating my car to only myself driving it simply because I can't afford to fix another motor right now and a misshift at 9k would be deadly. too much to lose.
500whp would be sweet, but i might get stuck in the upper 4's until i finish some other things off that might be restrictions, intake mani, throttle body and I will go to a tubular mani eventually too. Probably winter project...then shoot for 500's next spring. I honestly just want the damn thing to work, lol. |
Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog
My new "1400cc" DW injectors will be here tomorrow, my head is off to DB's machinist for his raceport job and +1mm valve installation with my new GSC s2 cams and supertech springs/retainers. The buschur diff pins and my tranny went to DB's tranny guy for installation and while he has it all apart if anything looks worn he is going to replace.
My stock turbo will be at FP Wednesday, so hopefully 2 weeks or so and he will ship it back. The Shortblock is due in port the end of this week or early next week, so hopefully end of next week or early the following week that will be at DB. Hopefully everything falls into place and the head/tranny are done before the shortblock gets there and then the FPblack arrives when the motor is going back in. It seems to be going smoothly...almost too smoothly. Edit: Also ordered a Thermal intake spacer, was going to do Boomba, but MAP had the same thing for like half the price from them so I just got that one. Also ordered my second piece of bling, aside from my Perrin shorty antenna that was my first mod, a boomba oil cap! |
