Feeding the addiction. An acquaintance of Kracka's is parting a car that already has Rallye 4's. I wish I'd gotten that email a few days sooner! Some sweet parts on that ride.

So, these must be for the harnesses, correct? I think you said you will have real race harnesses?

The Rallye 4's use the stock seatbelt anchors rather than a harness bar. The nice thing is that they are easily detached when you don't need them since they have releases similar to an OEM seatbelt.

Just returned from Discount Tires in West St Paul. Put a set of 265/35/18 Star Specs on the Volk RE30's. The guys there are pretty cool. One of them has a 400whp Mustang that DB tuned for him.

MAP said they should receive the tappets that they need to finish my head today. None of the ones from my old head were the right sizes for the new one. If it is finished before DB closes then I'll go pick it up this afternoon.

Nice! Not sure if you saw my posts about it, but did you buy the TPMS sensors from them?

Just an FYI they were not able to program them.

Crap. I need to do that airbag sensor recall soon anyway so I can have the dealer do it.

Re: Evo X upgrades

I just stopped at Discount, they said in a month or so they should have the software update. I am waiting for it and they were cool about it. They said they would flip the dealership bill if I wanted them to since they said they would be able to do it.

So I will wait a few weeks or a month and if nothing still then I will have the dealer do it. The thing that made me the most mad about the dealer was how they wanted a separate appointment to do it and acted like it was brain surgery to do it.

Brookdale...the guy was all like it doesn't take five minutes at all. I told him I had all the sensor id's so you plug your computer in and enter the numbers...done. Then he was like well the computer is like 5000 dollars. I was not happy,he was treating me like I didn't know shit. Then he wanted me to make an entire appointment, f that.

My first bad experience there but whatever.

mlomker 04-19-2010 08:03 PM

Re: Evo X upgrades

Hmm. I didn't write down the IDs since Discount implied that their tool would simply read them. I wonder if no Discount locations have the right version or just the one that you go to? It'll be a few weeks before I have the car back anyway. <shrug>

Just got the call from MAP -- my head is done but at this hour I will have to wait until tomorrow to pick it up.

Sweet, so you are bringing it to DB tomorrow? How long did Shane say it would take them once they got the head?

Yeah, I'll bring it and the new wheels over there. I'll have to call Shane and see if they'd have time to quickly swap the wheels on when I stop by. Time is very tight since it turns into a 90+ minute lunch 'hour'. I really wish it'd been ready today.

I haven't found it useful to ask for time estimates...I just call every few days and see how things are going. Not interested in having a rushed motor build.

Called Shane to check on my car. They haven't had time to do anything with it in the last week. :angryfire:

If nothing else I'm making a list of things that I'm never going to do again...

Spring is their busiest season I'm sure; probably lots of other cars sitting up there waiting to go back together.

Hmmm, interesting, I would've thought they would be anxious to get it out of there.

Well hopefully they knock a lot of it out this week.

Did he say if he was going to work on it this week at all? Or any kind of an update?

Yup, bribes and patient begging at this point. Soon man, soon!

I'll be up there later this week, I'll bring a wet noodle. :)

Re: Evo X upgrades

He said they just got a race car finished that'd been there for quite some time.

If it wasn't for the cam cap doubling the length of the project then it would have been fine. Nothing like making car payments when you don't have a car. :)

That race car you speak of was up there when I had my leakdown test done probably 4-6 months ago.

Yea it was that road race car that they put the FPblack on. Thankfully they are done with that now.

I didn't ask what all was done on it. I did see it up on the lift a few times when I was over there.

Maybe DB is secretly running a car storage facility? :spin:

Nope, not sure, obviously Shane would be the one to ask. He was hoping to get it to spool pretty fast since that car is a road race one. Would be interesting to see if they got it to spool super fast or not.

Don't want to distract him from getting stuff done. ;)

When the car is on the dyno is a good time for BSing.

Makes you wonder about the couple of 700hp Evos that he has on the dry-erase boards, doesn't it? They must be T4s.

Big ass turbo's for sure, most are running like 35+psi across the board.

Shane put some hours into my car today...goes to do the timing chain and wouldn't you know it, the new cam cap doesn't having the bolt holes for the timing chain guide.

Mitsu ftl?

Weak sauce! Any ETA on how long it's gonna take to get the right one? Or is he gonna just drill them in and thread them?

Re: Evo X upgrades

Gay.

U guys are funny on the dyno numbers, what you think? 700hp was easy, just write another check it will get you closer.

Just a mishap or poor QC on mitsu's part?

He's going to bring it over to MAP to have their machine shop drill them. This is the same large cam cap that broke on the previous head. The whole reason I got a new head was to avoid having to have one of these caps custom made and lined honed on the old head. Irony...lol.

Big power was never my plan. I could have done that with what I spent. I'm just looking for a good street setup with tolerable spool. Maxing out a BBX should suffice for that.

The crazy thing is this was a BRAND NEW core, something is definitely up but relying on mitsu to resolve this quickly just isn't going to happen lol.

^Sweet man, but a 16G on 2.0L and high boost is enough for 90% on here, sadly ego's get in the way and people want to make sure they can beat whatever they run into on the highway, plus a clean stock setup isn't cool apparantly.
How heavy are X's? From Murlo's numbers he has a perfect street setup and actually more since he was still pulling at redline right? (please note I might be mistaken here)

Porky but it doesn't really matter to me since I'll never be a good enough driver for the weight of the spare tire to matter, you know? An Evo on E85 and stock turbo feels really good and is undoubtedly 'enough'.

I went to the Fall dyno day last year, fell in love with scheides' car and decided that 500ish at MAP was what I wanted. Once everything is sorted the car should be around there.

My impression while at the dyno day was that 500whp was the sweet spot for a 'fast' street car. Scheides' car, a Corvette, and a few others were around there. There is always going to be faster cars but are they going to be reasonable to just drive around town? I think I pushed it as far as I'd want to go on that front...the BBX has middling spool for a stock-sized turbo and I've got a six puck.

turbotalon1g 04-28-2010 07:25 PM

Re: Evo X upgrades

lol. 500 is fast. A lot faster than you think.
