Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Nice work man! 8s are coming soon!!!!
On a side note i commented on someone's pic of a BIR announcer asking if it was the guy that can't say mitsubishi. so 8s at PG? |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That announcer should be kicked in the nuts. He's a fuckin moron.
Great pass though man, so close to 8's! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
How do you like that kiggly crank trigger setup? I notice when im logging my engine speed is somewhat erratic. I take it the kiggly setup fixes that?

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I'm going to do some stuff this winter to the Talon. I had a good time this year minus cutting some of my finger off. 9.5 racing FTW. I'm in the process of figuring out the scope of the winter project this year. Front tubular K-member is on the list, who knows! Here is the biggest upgrade, no more horse cock shifter.... http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...103_000043.jpg
And the new: http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...103_000114.jpg |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
You are joking right?
You didn't really use the stock one all this time? |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
No joke the stock one is the joint I've been using up to now! I'm so use to the EVO shift knob now it just makes sense to switch...
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Is that a delrin one off ebay, looks similar to the one i recently got :)
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That's the one! It should make for some easier shifting!

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Now that the season has been over for a while I’m looking at what I can improve over the winter. I’m going to focus on more weight reduction and driver assistance modifications.
I’m sticking with the dog box, my only real issue at this point is to get the car off of the line consistently. I need to be able to focus on the tree instead of a million things in the car. So I’m going to give a shot at a launch control solenoid on the clutch. I built one and have it installed now, I’m trying to figure out a way to have it fully automated/controlled by the EMS series 2. I’m also going to add a hydraulic e-brake for staging, circuited in just like the CNC ONE, so left front / right rear or something like that. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...119_194544.jpg I purchased a rear brake kit, TCE’s drag rear kit and I added brakeman revolution light weight rotors. Thanks again Drew at MAP for hooking me up on the rotors! I’m going to down size to 15” rims with wider and stickier MT slicks they are from Vassil’s setup. I plan on keeping the QTP's for my EVO. I’m looking at acquiring or fabricating a Tubular K-member too. I'll update this thread as I go. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
The rear brakes shaved off 19.5 pounds! The majority of the savings came from the calipers. They look sick too.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
20 lbs off is awesome! Do you know if those rear calipers have dust boots on the pistons? I would like to get a kit for the rear, but am leery of using a kit that doesn't have dust boots for the street driving the car sees. I also need to ask what has become of your old rear rotors that had work done to them  pm me!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
They recommend a normal rotor for street driving too....

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I took this snapshot at the BIR track scale last time I was there. This is my starting point for weight, without me in the car. I don't remember if I had the door panels installed or not. I know this is with carpet too!

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Man, that is light, not much more than Brent had with his 2G, and that was stupid light.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
What other things have you done for weight reduction to get it that light?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I got these off of Vassil yesterday! They look sick.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I got out to the garage a little this weekend. Installed the hydraulic e brake. It works great, super cheep on ebay. The only down fall is that I needed to make one of the tube nut fittings that interfaces the hydraulic cylinder. The thread count was non standard, for brake applications. The handle sits where the factory one was.
http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...222_174831.jpg Next up is the half radiator install. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Always something badass!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
How much was it? Will you be using that as a staging brake then?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Yes, I will be using it as a staging and parking brake. The price was around 45 bucks!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Wow thats pretty good. If I were to get one it would be without the locking button, so just for launching and burnouts
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Because holding the button in is tough?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That's the way it's setup, no button. To use it as a parking brake you need to flip a lever.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I was honestly thinking of buying this on eBay when I was cruising through brake stuff. I'm impressed!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Just wrapped up my half radiator installation. It was cheap on Ebay, I think around 80 shipped. Its a 3 row out for a Civic application. I modified the inlet and outlets to increase the size up to 1.5", chopped off the filler neck and covered it up, fabricated new mounts, added a petcock valve, and to wrap it up made a new overflow tank.
Weight savings ended up being 17+ pounds. Kind of crazy, more than what I expected. I weighed both radiators filled with water to make the comparison. Some of the weight was due to removing the extra radiator fan too. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...223_142615.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...229_092906.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...229_092853.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...229_092959.jpg |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Awesome work, looks VERY nice!!
p.s. had to clean keyboard after i drooled looking at your turbo set up :) |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Thanks again for the feedback.
I purchased one of those frontline fab rear end covers at the end of September and just received it earlier this month. I got a little advice from Mondale on how to install it, thanks. I also took the opportunity to take a touch of weigh out of it. The cover was a little heaver than the stock so I tubed up the rear brace to turn it into a net loss of weight. I used 1.25" 4130 .096 wall. I have a couple of little projects and I will be ready for the season. I need to wire up the launch solenoid, send my injectors out to FIC for clean/balancing, drop the oil pan to take a peak at bearings, and get my turbo back from PTE(It was starting to leak oil into the exhaust housing). http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...112_105522.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...112_105750.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...113_182516.jpg |
