Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

I have one that should be in, tomorrow am. I'll do it tomorrow night I guess.
I might just RTV it to at least test the car out. But I would prefer a gasket.

blackrosenova400 08-16-2012 08:55 PM

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

The only problem with rtv on an automatic is any excessive amount will get into the tranny fluid and could possibly gum up the valve body. I seen it once with an Allison automatic. The company installed an aftermarket pto and used rtv instead of a gasket. Bad move since the pto should have been shimmed. But there biggest mistake was they used so much rtv it destroyed there transmission.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

I have a few on order locally, but it will wait till saturday when I have a gasket. No point doing it tomorrow since i work 10-1030.

Only thing is whether or not the car will work or what issue will come up next.

Well same issue. Not sure what the culprit is now.

you could try wireing it up kiggly mod or 2 switch style to eliminate valve body/solinoid issue. I'm sure its the first thing you did but I would also double check all the plugs and harness' and that the shift linkage is adjusted properly. Theh 2 plugs on top of the trans would be easy to miss or not get pluged in all the way.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

I would check the solenoid resistance straight at the tcu, that way you make sure the whole circuit it good.

The best way is to load test the circuit because you could have one strand making contact in the harnessm but as soon as you put a load on it, it becomes a huge voltage drop.

How would one do this? I'm useless at electrical diagnosis.

Ok, did some troubleshooting last night went through the guide in the manual and turns out 2 plugs were in the wrong place.

Switched them out and bam! car works as normal.

If I didn't have VB on wed. I'd be at BIR even though the track is worthless on those nights and there is nothing on sunday. I'll be there within a couple of weeks. Launches good. :Banane55:

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

So attempted to drive teh car again this saturday. Fuel pump was dying and swapped in another one, problem solved.

Then was heading out for some dinner and a cruise, pushed the coolant cap off and ended up bursting the coolant overflow hose. Parked it went and had dinner and drinks then picked it up today.

Still not really driving the car that much because I ordered my tabs online (dumbass move) and they are still not here!

Car needs an alignment, re-torque headstuds and maybe I'll do a compression test and what not to make sure she is in good shape, either way I'll run it.

I'm also thinking of getting rid of all the gauges that I have and just going back to a boost, oil psi, trans temp, and wb. I know its nice to have and originally it was about having the information if i need it, but I know that I'll have the car running solid enough to where I won't need it.

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

Drove the car again last night and washed it for the first time in over a year. It's no show car but I'm happy its clean and doesn't look like a rally car anymore.

Car drives great, had some frum roll action last night and did well.
I did try to stall it up last night and realized that I need to tune it if not I will not be going to the track.

Don't say the S word. I need to tune the launch bad, I cant get it to stall up and I'm sure its in the tune since after driving it a mile I stalled it up good and launched at 10psi.

Right now its locked at 2-3 psi and 3000rpm. Just need to finish this damn homework so I can get outside.

Oh and I cleaned it last night and I was so happy to see it, I did it at the spray booth and it sounded nasty when I used the foam brush. Spaz would cry, but I'm happy its clean. Maybe I'll hand wash it tomorrow.

turbotalon1g 09-04-2012 11:35 PM

Re: Big Brown's Automagic - The last episode in my DSM story.

so I found some boost leaks that might of been the problem with the stall, although because of these issues i did learn some more about tuning for stall/launch.

I got an AL short antenna to replace my stock one, but my camera was dead. :( I'll try and snap some pics tomorrow before I leave for BIR.
