I used to be a "tweaker" too. Now I just give it to shane, let him do his thing because he's about 10000 times better than me, and then just leave it alone.

If I remember correctly, Shane touched his first two engines...

but murlo didn't change a thing I bet during those tunes.......

I don't want to get into anything on my first two engines. Past is past.

Shane is still an awesome tuner and if I utilize anyone locally it will be him. I went to Jon D as he had been doing some Speed density type stuff and was testing a lot with Tephra. It wasn't quick at all to work with Jon given the fact he is far away but I have sorted plenty of issues.

That being said, moving on...

And I don't tune my car, I just monitor, try to fix if I can and send logs to Jon.

Are you insinuating the tuner should be liable for anything at that point?

All I'm saying is I hear ya Murlo, I was the exact same way! A week after getting off the dyno I'd be right back on the laptop screwing around. With this car I changed that though. Decided to let the tuner (Shane) do his thing, and then put the laptop away and just enjoy. Which has honestly made it more enjoyable to drive for me.

I've never understood those type of people. Pay $300 for a good dyno tune, then start fucking with it. When you get a haircut you don't go home and fire up the clippers do ya? LOL

I think you are misinterpreting when I say I always change my tune. As I said in the above post, I am not tuning my car and have NEVER ever touched my tune. I didn't want to touch it stock let alone now. I am competent enough now to navigate the tuning software and log shit, but zero tuning is done by me.

My tune was redone from the ground up speed density style last year by Jon Draenas, he used to work for Cobb and is a very well respected tuner, especially of Evo X's. His evo X is still on the stock block making 600whp and has been since very early on. Mitsu even gave him a pre production ralliart to start tuning/playing with. I just loved the fact that he had an X and really spent TONS of time learning it and developing ECUflash with Tephra to get it right.

Up until using Jon D (bakaunchi) I never ever had anyone do anything to my evo tuning wise except shane. I had like 300 dyno runs on my X there over a few years, every time I changed stuff I went back to him for retuning.

There must be not other constants, yeah? I'm betting there were.

He also touched my first one that was built at the same time as Murlo's first. Besides a stock valve eating shit the motor has been perfect for over 2 years.

So anywho, here is the updated graph for the twinscroll 6466 I showed before! MY GOD!

It's interesting to me that that graph shows 120whp more than my care made at MAP, but, my car made 85 more ftlbs. My turbo is the Vband housing and not the twinscroll.

Making that much power, I'd think that car would be spinning some in 3rd on the street.

Mo powa mo problems. That is pretty bad ass though

You are also making more boost I thought, like 40ish psi? This guy is at 34ish.

The X motor is similar to a honda motor, its just super efficient up top.

From what I have seen, everytime on the same turbo, the x spools faster yet lacks the same mid range punch, but usually doesn't taper up top like the 8/9 if the turbo isn't maxed.

Different motor/platform, the 4b11 IS a good motor when it stays together :)

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

I'm just amazed it could make that much at ~35psi with the same turbo.

Murlo26 02-09-2013 03:24 PM

Re: Dave's Evo X Build/The Life of Dave blog

35psi on the X though might actually be more airflow. Remember two things here, a. boost is a measure of resistance so if his setup is really efficient it makes sense, b. its a virtual dyno not real dyno, he is going to a real dyno soon.

I'm curious to see how my car does at DB when Shane's done with it.

I'm really happy with the 6466 and my setup.
