I suspect any car would be fast with Matt driving it. :D

Re: Evo X upgrades
I've never been good at any sport. Even if I was, I'm not much into competing with anybody. I quit jui jitsu when it became 'not fun' because you had to beat the next guy in line to get promoted. I'm just not into that.
That's why half the money into my car is just for looks. I've learned a lot about a subject that I didn't know anything about going into it. Who knows what I'll do once this car is done...move on to another hobby, I'd imagine. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Fair enough, competition just doesn't appeal to some people. Regardless, there's no reason to not learn to be a better driver.

Re: Evo X upgrades
You need this now too:
http://cosworthusa.com/store/pc/view...&idproduct=702 Only $1300 ;) Those end-tanks are pure sex. Similar to Perrin and AMS, but a bit more like Nisei tanks which resemble what I've seen on F1 intercoolers. I like how the outlet gently transitions similar to a HKS. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Auto-x for a novice should be about improving your times from run to run. The fun part of it is not always who got the fastest time but figuring out how to cut time in each element. I learned alot last year on stock everything, Matt and everyone else in the club is awesome at encouraging drivers to get faster. All I can say is ask alot of questions! Have fun, and oh yes you will be addicted. mlomker, id take matt up on the offer, you learn alot about high hp and small spaces at the midway. ;) Id offer up my car but I wont be intown that day.

Re: Evo X upgrades
The guy who gave me the great quote on the head didn't reply to my email yesterday so that's a bummer. I shot out quote requests to MAP and Boombop shop. I had bought the cams from Boombop.
I think Shane had found a good quote as well...need to get the details on that. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Posted this on evomn too, but didn't know which you'd see first:
Lomker, another idea for you? Order a new OEM head. Steal the cam cap off of it, put it on your head, and then order the AMS part (at the same time). Then sell the OEM head w/ AMS cam cap as a whole functioning OEM head (with disclosure about the ams piece, obviously). If Mitsu has one on the shelf somewhere, this might be a good bang/buck for ya, just will tie up the cash in that head for a short while. |

Some options would be much less expensive but realistically require 2 months of being without my car (parts availability, machine shop time, and DB is swamped with work). I'm not opposed to spending money on upgrades (if I can afford it) if it'll save the Spring for me. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
If you can, I say just do whatever gets the car back to fastest, which looks to be what you are doing.
It's going to be 70 next week, get that shit on the road and enjoy all the money spent:) As if you didn't already know that, lol. |

Re: Evo X upgrades
I spoke to MAP and they'd like the opportunity to do a stage 5 head for an Evo X. They did some milder work on their shop Evo X MR but would like to go all the way and see how it flows. They are going to check on obtaining a core and call me back with a time estimate.
Having the first stage 5 head from MAP could be fun! |
Re: Evo X upgrades
I went out and signed on the dotted line..I get to join the ranks of you guys today! They had blue, red and white on the lot, but I liked the white one the best. Future mods include black wheels, headlights, tails, cf bits here n there, cbrd turbo, perrin fmic, and a stock bov ;)

You have your head yet? |
Re: Evo X upgrades
lol, all is in good fun.
I get the head on sunday, when I go up there, and he welds the flange I got in the mail today to the turbo. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
I went with a head from MAP. It'll be similar to the Cosworth. +1mm valves, Cossie dual springs, and their porting. They are going to clearance the MX1s so that'll save Shane a little bit of hassle on the reinstall.

Ran to Dad's and did an oil change on the car that he's loaning me. I think I'll look for a set of hub caps for it.

Re: Evo X upgrades
I think a a set of black 17" RPF1's are the way to go. :D
What kind of power gains are you expecting to see from the cams and head work? |

The dyno charts that I've seen have only shown modest gains from porting. Just about everything has been PPC now so the cumulative effect should certainly add some power. My main goal with the head is 9k rpms. I know for a fact that rpms will add power as long as the turbo is still breathing...evidence has shown the FP Red is still pulling at 8k so I have no reason to believe that the BBX will be out of breath before 9k. There are a number of 1sts in this build so some questions won't be answered until Shane straps it down on the dyno. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
Nice! I'm excited to see what this ends up at. You're gonna be going on the rollers at Boost For Boobies, right?
|
Re: Evo X upgrades
We plan to have the head done around April 15th, that doesn't leave much time for Shane to get the car back together and tuned, but we sure hope to see it at B4B!

Hey if you decide to drag it you'll be able to rev it out in 4th no problemo! |

ETS with their setup which is similar to lomkers, different brands and the addition of engine bearings, and they take theirs up to 10k rpms:) I think he could do 9500 even honestly, but i doubt he will be making power up there, who knows;) I would do enough to get 4th in the quarter and only go more if it kept making power. |

-- These builds are endless, aren't they? I need to get rubber and the Volks on, set the ride height/corner balance, alignment, new brake system installed, fix the suction line in the tank, install gauges, install splitter/canards/wing, clean up vacuum lines, do a wire tuck to show off the Primo valve cover, install Ralliart tail lights, and maybe replace the trunk plastic that I scratched the piss out of. I might even wash the f-ing thing if I can squeeze that in. lol. |
Re: Evo X upgrades
You did brakes too, man you really did everything at once, lol.
Just get the damn thing running and enjoy for a bit first:) You need to love the evo a bit, by driving it that is. |

I would expect to burn up the stock setup by the end of the Summer. I want to learn how to do brakes on my own so I'll find someone to work with me on it when the time comes. |
