Unsafe, as it turns out, haha.

Edit: ooh, now that I think about it, I bet it caught on fire, if he pulled an Aaron.

Matt, look at exactly what he quoted. Nothin to do with tranny.

Chinese firedrill in the moontaxi anyone?

John, I wanna see you run that white cbr1000rr that was there on the dyno evening..:D

I got a R1 you can run when you are ready.

Re: 91 Galant VR4

I need to pull the wiring harness from the engine bay and figure out what happened, and send the EMS to AEM to see if they can fix it. The tranny shifts fine at 9500, the car has plenty of traction with the tires, at least from a 2nd gear roll to rev limiter in 4th.

John and everyone else, read this. This is a freaking PROJECT THREAD not facebook. Go back and read what is posted here, it is annoyingly ambiguous. Post up actual info, not vague hints as to something that may or may not have happened. For all we know the front clip dislodged and dumped you into a truck filled with cow dung, or it decided to die on the side of the road. Just say what happened, post pics if you have them, and call it a day. I can't stand the goddamn winks and 'I'm hte inside guy' comments from swifty (or anyone else for that matter, I hate that shit), it's childish.

Re: 91 Galant VR4

My bad for saying anything before I knew exactly what happened. I will take some picks when I get home. The main engine bay harness under the intake manifold started on fire. I am not sure where or why it started on fire, but lucky for me someone in a truck driving by had a fire extinguisher on hand.

I should have waited until I tore into what happened before I posted or said anything.

Sorry I gave you a wedgie Chris. MY condolences to your cornhole. I guess I forgot the seriousness of a build thread and posting to-the-point comments, when I look in my thread, and it's trash ;)

I like the secretive thing, it tests my car/people knowledge! It's a good thing wires are super easy to fix.

Re: 91 Galant VR4

Its to bad the inside of the EMS is not as easy to fix.

Swifty1638 08-09-2010 05:41 PM

Re: 91 Galant VR4

And even then, yes fixing it is whatever. But, as usual, the hardest part is answering why and how it happened, and preventing it from occuring again.

John, go to target yet? I'm going in a few minutes, I can double check/verify for ya if you want.

Pushit2.0 08-09-2010 05:47 PM

Re: 91 Galant VR4

The only thing that makes sense right now is the main starter wire had an issue, the car still ran up to the point the fire burnt threw the main harness, just above it, shorted out wires and then the car died.

Re: 91 Galant VR4

No issues with any injector or seal leaking at all, on your made rail? I've seen even the SMALLEST of imperfection, metal nick, torn seal, etc leak. But, knowing you, i'm beating a dead horse, and you have already checked that all.

Re: 91 Galant VR4

I will leave the fuel rail on when I pull the SMIM off and test the fuel rail for leaks with an air hose and 135psi. And I suppose your Target comment is to piss scheides off?

Simply 'idk wtf happened, small fire on the wiring harness under the SMIM today but I got it out' would have been dandy ;) All I ever post is shit I know, if its unknown, I admit it and hope I figure it out. :)

STFU swifty, it was two full pages of nothing but half-ass posts. That doesn't even happen in your thread, people actually give a fuck about your car (even though you try not to) so they're trying to give you more advice that you'll ignore. No one got banned over it or anything. :P

Hard when you know absolutely zero from the comments, I like my suggestion about the front clip falling off the best so far! Wiring...fire.....lame!

Apparently its swifty's half-ass ed comments I'm peeved at because he went ahead and laid down another one. Like purposefully posting the first half of a response to a brief conversation that was had (offline) so people know that they talk to each other in real life...swifty doesn't realize that he's doing it wrong, and ends up confusing himself:

Cause that's what I'd assume you'd look for after a fire at target, but just FYI I don't think that any of the ones you find at target are rated for automotive use. Get a real one made to go in a car unless its primary purpose is to sit in a garage 'just in case.'

Sorry for the rants, just idk guys pretend we're posting on the internet or something, no code-words needed...just tell it like it is, include some pics, maybe some references to where said info came from or what the shit you're about to mention is in relation to...you know, like we're talking to each other. Basic grammer and shit. You know, the stuff that helps set this site apart from some of the others out there? I'm trying here. Help me out a little please :)

Re: 91 Galant VR4

Chris, It was a discussion I had with John on Sunday when I traveled up there to pick up my AEM. You can purchase automotive fire extinguishers from target, which we where talking about. I didn't want to flat out say all that happened, since it's not MY car to reveal info about. I merely told Matt that he was wrong about the tranny being an issue. The target thing I was not confused about, nor was it a slam at you.

Yup see my post in your thread, thats awesome they carry auto-specific ones now! No slam taken, just saw one explode once that wasn't auto rated... :P

Re: 91 Galant VR4

Ya, these are to be kept in larger weather conditions, all the way up to 120 deg. F and are specific for electrical and flammable fluids.

Re: 91 Galant VR4

unfortunatly, with the extent of John's Galant, there is NOTHING stock left on it. The harness has 8 injector clips, all aftermarket sensors, MSD wiring, and specific wiring for the ecu. If it's not needed, he doesn't have it. The harness is quite small, and simple from what I remember.

Well, I figured, if you payed any damn attention at all to this build thread, you'd see nothing has been left untouched, torn apart, rebuilt, made, or changed. Wiring included. I'm merely reposting the obvious. PAY ATTENTION BRIAN!

Re: 91 Galant VR4

I will have the wiring out tomorrow. I will go from there as to what I need to fix it. I have 1 more 1g main harness, but if I need something I will post up in the WTB section. I used the same engine harness that ran the car last time, I just moved some stuff around and added a few wires into it, like the secondary injector wires. But for the most part is was a stock harness, just deleted what I did not need and routed it out of the way of things.

Here is the after math of the fire.

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P261010018.JPG
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P261010015.JPG
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P261010017.JPG

The fire started around the starter in the main harness.

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P271010013.JPG

Here is what was left that is still good.

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P271010014.JPG

Here is all the stuff I had to cut out.

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P271010008.JPG
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P281010002.JPG
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P281010001.JPG
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P271010009.JPG
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P271010006.JPG

The clean up process, sulfur and water do not make a good mix. I still have a lot of clean up to go, but that will take place over this winter.

http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P271010012.JPG
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P271010011.JPG
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P281010005.JPG
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P281010006.JPG
http://www.mitsustyle.com/photopost/...P271010010.JPG

And the new stuff, I picked up a V2 AEM EMS. I remade the engine bay harness, and will be using the peak/hold injector drivers to run the 1600's as the primary injectors. Then over the winter I will go back to 1 fuel rail and buy some Injector Dynamics 2150's. I also made a gear/rpm/mph graph. Even though the splits look bad for 2nd/3rd the car has little to no lag between gears. I also picked up a wide band that will be wired in.

The car should be done and up at the cookout this weekend. Then its to the track to see what this car can do.

Re: 91 Galant VR4

It should be drivable, but no rides. I have to convert the V1 tune for the V2 EMS or copy/paste the main fuel/ignition map and make sure everything else is working. That is why I have a wideband that will be in the car, and if I have to I will be back up at DB on the dyno for some more tuning.

Well it came down my computers, lap top or desk top, not wanting to talk with the new EMS v2. But I now have that sorted out and the car ran tonight. I ended up making a fuel rail and moving the 1600's up top, so now I just need the ID for next year.

Here are some pics of the work done on the car post fire.
