Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
This might be my favorite dsm of all time, im sorry if there's drool and other bodily fluids on it at PG

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I wish my car looked like that.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Three thumbs up.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
The wiring is done! I’m so sick of killing my neck and back wiring this shit! I also finished up the deep sump oil pan modification. Now to get the pan swapped out, fill with fluids and start this pig.
http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...327_184912.jpg I need to add length to the pickup to match the pan depth. I spun up a spacer on my lathe, just need to test fit everything. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...327_071244.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...327_071309.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...327_071258.jpg |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I was just looking at the pictures and the sump looks like I added 3", it's only 1.75" deeper.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Crazy cool! What made you decide on that oil pan setup vs extending it sideways like the ones they make for the evo8/9?

I was like, "why the fuck did he extend it so far?!!" Nice work. How much space did you leave between the pickup and the bottom of the pan? |

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Dam that looks good. With that kind of 60 foot times you should be able to get into the 8s
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Very nice, that will help with oil windadge also if you extend your oil dip stick.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
I couldn’t find a new emblem for the bumper, so my father in-law made one out of stainless steel on his CNC mill. This is just awesome!
http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...330_140438.jpg http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...330_134255.jpg I also need to figure out how to get my 12 tooth crank trigger to work with the series 2 EMS, Kiggly has instructions for the series 1, but the series 2 is a little different. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That is sick! Very nice touch.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
^Agreed
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That is badass! As always, you do awesome work, Mark! Cant wait to see this thing go down the track!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That badge is WAY too cool!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
+1 on the creativity with the badge.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
+1 on the badge
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That badge is sick.
So did you weigh the SS badge and say "damn I wish he made it out of Aluminum" :) |

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Kind of funny, I have one that is aluminum too, it was the test part. The SS will hold up better, its much thinner and weigh about the same as the test part.
I almost have the ecu ready to go, I have the AEM serial gauge all setup now too. The CAN communication is all configured to read all of the widebands. I can display them on the serial gauge too to check them out. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Started it yesterday, not easy to get all of the 12 tooth stuff figured out. Lots of timing light time required. The 12 tooth wheel makes the car start instantly, and the timing is dead on with no drift like it had before at idle! It started faster than factory did, although my settings need adjustment big time as it starts harder when warm. The tune needs a ton of work, not even close, setup the injectors copied over the fuel map, set the micro-bits/second and it runs super pig rich. Lots of work to be done on the tune, that sucks.
Today I drove it around the block, the tilton clutch is the best thing ever, the engagement is super smooth, like street car semi metalic smooth. The dog box shifts like butter, the noise from the straight cut gears is awesome. 5th gear is quiet, since it’s factory. I cannot wait to get it all tuned up and get it down the track. The 4 wide bands are cool too, the only thing I need to get figured out is the idle solenoid, I have a feeling that the series 2 ecu is limited on a PWM output like the series one had support for. Fail Also my car is on the main page of DSMTuners, highlighted as the build of the month. Kind of cool! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
That sounds amazing.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Awesome work. Crazy we have a guy like you local.
Also I got another t-case you can have use as a back up. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Congrats again on the Build of the month!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Congrats sir!!!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Definitely deserves car of the month
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Awesome work! And congrats on build of the month! I really hope I get to see this thing in person sometime this summer!!!!
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Very cool, the switch from vs1 to vs2 is not easy and will require a complete retune, idk why they have it so you can convert the maps when it doesn't work. Good luck.
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Congrats on build of the month, did the v1 have a lot of drift in timing in the upper RPM's? Wonder if the v1 would have any drift with the 12 tooth?
None the less car is beautiful and I'm sure the feeling of doing everything yourself is the best part!:spin: |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
The drift problem is more due to the 1G not having a sensor/trigger wheel on the crank, and just one on the cam, which is effected by belt stretch/slack.

Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Quick update:
I finished off the dash last week by adding a USB bulkhead connector to make it easy to interface with my laptop. http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...407_125541.jpg I'm also going to remove the AVCO rear swaged tube lower control arms. They broke on the dyno last time and I just replaced the broken ones with the same Afco replacements. I would like to dyno the car at some point, so I need to beef up the lower control arm to handle the additional load due to how it is strapped down to the dyno. old ones: http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...6_164456-1.jpg To insure that this doesn’t happen again I ordered 1.25” diameter, .120 wall, 4130 tubing and weld in inserts for the female threading. I’m also replacing the cheap Afco heim joints with some QA1 Teflon / Kevlar heat treated heim joints to remove any play in the joint. I’ll snap a pic when all is finished up. I have an alignment appointment Friday to dial everything back in. |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
And done!
Lower control arm is way way stronger now! http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/p...424_180343.jpg |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Did you weigh before/after? That must have added at least a few ounces! :(

Since you added weight there... Remove it here: http://bulfab.com/bf-mustachebar.html
Make one of those!! Car looks good! Cant wait to see this thing go down the track! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
^Where is the front subframe?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Any progress on this beast? Done any tuning yet with the 4 widebands?
|
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Yeah it’s been a little while since my last update. The car would breakup at 4K RPM and 6K RPM super bad. I couldn’t even get a full pull in at the lowest boost level. The culprit was that I converted to that Kiggley 12 tooth crank trigger wheel and the cam sensor was not adjusted correctly. The signals were overlapping and the cam signal was very very close to a crank signal event. At 4K and 6K the signal would overlap causing ignition errors. I think it was due timing belt harmonics??
I also put back in my wideband in the down pipe, since I don’t fully trust the readings of the individual widebands yet. They are all off from one another by almost a full point of AFR! Also they seem to be a little nonlinear at idle. So to gain confidence in their readings I need to play around by swapping injectors around and seeing if AFR’s track to the change or remain the same and then do the same with the widebands themselves. Lots of BS to prove it out. I also just added a 2G VSS sending unit, so I can control my 2-step on launch vs. gear to gear shifting. Both John and I have seen lazy recovery times when the 2step kicked in between our shifts at the track. And to wrap it up I’m planning on bringing the car to BIR this weekend for its maiden voyage down the track! I'm going to be forced to enter it in King Street due to it being too light for Unlimited Street. Lots of changes this year, I'm crossing my fingers that don't have any major bugs to work out. I just want a good clean pass deep in the 9's or maybe even 8's who knows! |
Re: Mark's 1G Winter Projects
Good luck with it all, interesting to hear about the timing error's at 4/6k.
