Re: 95 Talon TSi AWD

As I'm waiting for our Sunnen hone to free up and my head bolt bottoming tap to arrive I decided to start work on the head. I then somehow ended up working on something I have been meaning to do for awhile. Haha Here it is.

I do not have quite the right angle yet and I believe I tapped a little too far. This is nothing a little more tapping and a grinder won't fix.

So there's my sad excuse for an update! lol

^I'm interested to see how that mod works, seems no-one had any real feedback.

I admire your dedication, under continued misfortune, to do things as right as possible. This thing should scream when you finish. The pics and progress are greatly appreciated.

Any plans on a guard to keep oil out? Seen a few setups like this on tuners with a splash type guard in place.

I guess I haven't considered it. I haven't seen any examples yet to replicate so I guess I could do some looking.

I also saw a couple on tuners with custom baffles to guard it so oil isnt constantly going threw.

Since I'm a dumbass, I'll ask. Is that just for crankcase pressure relief? Or something completely different and awesome?

Crankcase relief.

Force Engineering is the shop that did this with the battle welded in place.

Still awaiting to get the tap for my head bolt holes. Then the torque plate can go on and into the hone it goes!

Yesterday I made a trip to MAP to have my buddy Aric resurface the block correctly. Our setup here at school is great is you're stuck in the days of 5.7 Chevys or V8s in general. That obviously isn't the case here though. So here it is. Thanks be to Aric again for the help.

Now here's the ultimate question; what color should I paint this pig?!? I wanted to go with Cummins beige but I'm almost thinking metallic gold will look good. I think I'm losing it! I hear black and purple but my Lord, I cannot make up my mind! Hahaha

Got a color picked out thanks to none other than yours truly.

Also got the torque plate on. This only after decided to say screw the 11x1.25mm bottoming tap that should have been here today. One would think if you order something on a Thursday from California it would leave the state before the following Wednesday. Oh well though! All I did was bead blast a stock head bolt and grind a notch in it. It cleaned up a little trapped junk. Good old CRC brake clean did the rest of the work.

Tomorrow I will have the day to hone and ya'll can believe it'll be done. Then back to head porting. After that a little guide replacement and hone then assembly.

Any reason you just didn't use the balance shaft alignment hole for a vent?

I suppose I was just following the thread made by BogusSVO. The reason I believe this area is used is because it serves as a good area for relief. That and I believe that was it's intention when designed from Mitsubishi. Thus doing this would help it out.

That isn't to saying one might not be able to used that hole. Or the hole on the front case when your B.S'. are deleted.

Re: 95 Talon TSi AWD

just wondering, because I think i'm going to use that one. My motor is already assembled and don't really want to try to drill a hole.

DSMINMN 04-17-2015 02:37 PM

Re: 95 Talon TSi AWD

In that case yeah, you'd probably want to avoid getting junk into your block. This also isn't an easy hole to drill. Nor is it cheap. I think there were three of us. Two holding the block and myself drilling. The drill bit and tap would put you back almost $50 as well.

what size did you tap it to?

1/2" NPT.

Re: 95 Talon TSi AWD

wow, that is big. No wonder it was hard to drill!

Re: 95 Talon TSi AWD

Yes sir. Hahaha We got 'er though.

If anyone ever needs it done I can do it for you. I've got the junk to do it and the part number for the fittings.
