Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Sup medusa, that's a lot of piping! Cool to see it finally welded up though. Got your motor all assembled yet?
*edit* you were busy while I was doing dizzle's head, I missed the last update. That's a lot of progress! Can't wait to see it all come together. You're saving $$ for dyno time, right? |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Of course I am! I need a tune for this pos to start rombing on it.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Hopefully your turbo spools before revlimiter with all that pipe to fill.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
You know what they're talking about, lol. I think it looks good, and I hope it sticks through the hood.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I don't know really what they speak of. I know rev issues, and the longer runners on the manifold, but matt D's comment throws me off..
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Think they're referring to your giant intercooler piping. That's my guess.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
ah. Well, yea, we shall see!
New pics of it done and mocked up on Ed's car (Joes brother, the guy making my mani) are up on FB. I'll wait to just post the pics of it on my car, once it arrives. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Sweet, can't wait to see it all together, getting close now!

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Since scheides was going to flip if I didn't update..
I gotta first say thanks to my buddy Joe out on PA for making this manifold for me. He took time, even after his normal job, and rushed this manifold up and out to me. Thanks again. We went back n forth about skipping packing peanuts, and just using shit. Even joked about pooping into the manifold because he did it for soo cheap. Either way, after chasing down the USPS chick today for my package (she rang the doorbell, then ran off before I could get to it, so I got in my car and drove after her so I could sign for it) I tore into it, and found a few things: http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs449...._1449803_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6046173_n.jpg I then found a box for a dynatek arc-2, opened it, and he shipped me.. http://hphotos-sjc1.fbcdn.net/hs469...._1827659_n.jpg I threw it all on the car, after modifying some shit.. http://hphotos-sjc1.fbcdn.net/hs469....4_639274_n.jpg http://hphotos-sjc1.fbcdn.net/hs469...._7817938_n.jpg http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1727550_n.jpg I gotta take it all out again, and modify the lower motor mount more, and figure the stupid oil return. John will have a fun time trying to fit the exhaust, lower ic pipe, and wg dump in there.. oh, and I think there is a nugget of doggie poop in the manifold, so I gotta blow it out somehow..damn Joe, and his jokes! That's it for now.. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Thats looking SWEET! Congrats on getting the manifold
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Looks good man! I'm confused as to where the exhaust and such will go...Goodluck! :)

wow looks good. How much did you pay for that? PM me if u want haha not that it matters!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
It does all look really nice!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Looks awesome, but I'm with everyone else... Where is your exhaust pipe going?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Swifty, you may want to look into the new TiAL wastegates that are smaller.
http://www.tialsport.com/NewHotness.html Looking good Swifty |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Also are you going air filterless too? Or just a really skinny mo fo to fit in between your radiator hose and turbo?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Thanks guys. Hopefully it will be more then just a collection of crap, but something that actually DOES something.
I thought of smaller wg, but why bother when this one works. As for the exhaust, it actually has more room then the pic shows, but it will be a feat for john, that's for sure. Air filter-less for now, yes. The upper rad hose still sorta comes in the way of it all, so when/if I get a filter setup, it will need to be notched. For now though, I got enough "screen" and a clamp to run my own "custom" air filter, with enough extra to be able to change my "screen" out at every oil change/tire rotate/maint. point ;) |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Not, trying to knock his work but that wastegate placement for the exhaust couldn't be in a worse spot lol.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
So whats left, Lower IC pipe, exhaust and oil lines?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
oil return, lower ic pipe, exhaust, wg dump, and fluids.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I'm gonna be cutting my front motor mount and reinforcing it to make more room for my oil return!
There really is less room for you I bet! |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Lots less room. I have no idea how I'm going to route this shit.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Good Luck! It's looking Hot!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Why risk engine damage by not running a filter? You've put an awful lot of time and money into this setup to be basically sandblasting your combustion chamber and turbo with every revolution. The screen will keep bugs, rocks, and birds (yes I have a friend who sucked a baby bird into his filterless turbo hatch), but it won't keep out the smaller particles that can really do damage over time.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I say extend the upper rad hose a bit so it has a bump up to it, and put a nice big foam filter from Uni and keep it safe: http://www.unifilter.com/onlinecatalog.html
The guy I sold my 35r to off of my 2g ran it filterless w/ a maf-t setup (he put some nice mesh stuff over it). I saw the setup about 3000 miles later and the compressor wheel was absolutely fuct. |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
looks good, but man I thought my engine bay was tight to get the dump tubes, exhaust in there. looks like this has a lot less room than mine
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
You should get one of those flexible rad hoses like mark runs
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
How much longer until it's running?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Gotta make the lower ic pipe, exhaust dump, wg, and then fluids. I hope not much longer, but we will see.
You guys must remember, the turbo is on TOP, not down lower, where it's more prone to debris. Yea, A filter/intake would be a nice option, but as of right now, I dunno how that's going to be possible. |

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Hopefully you're revving to 10k+. The 61 kinda wanted to spool, the 67 sorta did by 6.5k,
...how's a 70 suppose to? |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
71mm, ;)
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Spool? whats spool?
LOL, I hope you have that revving bug fixed! |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Me too. We shall see. If not, this will be the most expensive bonfire I've ever lit up.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Topmount manifolds are also usually horribly laggy.
You have to run a filter, they don't hurt power. It's going to suck in every piece of dirt in that engine bay. Your turbo will be destroyed and motor full of dirt in no time. Right behind the radiator is also a terrible place to suck in air, you should try to run a pipe(with a filter on the end of it) down into a fender well or atleast behind one of the headlights and pull the headlight at the track. 80 degree air is much better than 120 degree+ air. |
