Re: Project Lex
2.25 should be just fine I would think.

Re: Project Lex
2.25 fo sho.
|
Re: Project Lex
I vote 2.25. Plenty of flow and it will look moar sleeperish. :D

Re: Project Lex
Cool, I think that's what I'll do. I do have a left over 3" resonator from my old talon turbo back I'll used. If it still ends up being louder than I wanted, there's enough room under there to later add a 3" muffler underneath.
|
Re: Project Lex
I have a 3" in/out resonator pipe, a little over 20" long, you can have it for free if you want it.
|
Re: Project Lex
you could keep the stock exhaust and put a e-cutout in the down pipe thats what i got on my talon i love it.. nice and quite when i dont feel like being loud and obnoxious. just fuel for your thought, figure all you would need to buy then is a 3inch downpipe with a 3inch cut out welded to the end then a flange to the stock exhaust
http://shop.quicktimeperformance.com...ct_detail&p=36 or http://shop.quicktimeperformance.com...ct_detail&p=30 and weld on of those on to a 3inch downpipe |
Re: Project Lex
Well ended up finding 2.5 mufflers that are cheaper than 2.25, so I'm going to do dual 2.5".
So it'll be the ebay 3" downpipe that I got with the manifold kit. Going to a custom 3" midpipe I'll make out of my Talon's old turbo back using the flex section and the 3" resonator from it. Then it will split to dual 2.5" using this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3-INC...item3cb49ded6c Then two offset in/out 2.5" mufflers in the rear. Will have to find some tips for them. Look just like the magnaflow one I had on the Talon. Got my fingers crossed they end up being great. They are cheap as fawk: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OFFSE...item3a63fe6a7d |

Woot back to building it custom, me likely. Buy some tips though, you now have a luxury car, it needs SS tips! haha

Re: Project Lex
Yeah, thinking tips just like was on the talon. 4" tips, angle cut with a rolled edge. Got the one for the talon down at the local Pap Boi :)

Re: Project Lex
Why you going with a stock pressure plate?
|
Re: Project Lex
Because I was recommended this as a cheap option for the power level I'm aiming for this year.
|
Re: Project Lex
Without reading back 21 pages... What is your power level your going for?

This year is 350-400hp. Just going to run WG boost levels to get used to the car, get kinks worked out, and also the current drivetrain can't handle much more.
And more updates :) PP torqued to 14lb/ft. Tranny is back in, woo woo. Driveshaft and all that stuff is back in. Thanks for letting me borrow the tranny jack Aaron. I don't think I coulda done this job without it. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305347860 SO with that being done, what's next? Manifold. Thanks again to Andy at Elite for chopping off the old WG flange and tacking my new one in place. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305347860 Test fitting everything up. Brand new exh. mani gaskets :) Going to chop the end off the comp housing and get a 90* welded on that. Mo lemme know when you got your welder all setup!! Onto the pics! http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305347860 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305347860 Collector. Seen better, but seen worse. It'll do just fine for me http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305347860 Exh. Housing on, and downpipe halfass installed just for me to see how it lines up. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305347860 More test fitting: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305347860 Extended Tip Son!! http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305347860 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305347860 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305347860 |
Re: Project Lex
I'm liking it!

Re: Project Lex
How far is the turbo from the hood? Cant tell in the photos. Looks great!
|
Re: Project Lex
I must have missed it, but what are you doing for an intake manifold?
|
Re: Project Lex
Stock intake manifold. Again, trying as much as possible to go 1 by 1. Change as little as possible. Get that working as good as possible before changing anything else.

Chopped the big outlet off the compressor cover. Will need to get a 90* welded to it facing forward.

Not sure if this is the way I'll go yet, just a real rough start to one route... http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305433984 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305433984 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305433984 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305433984 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305433984 |
Re: Project Lex
Oh. Does the stock intake inlet clear that massive turbo? I guess I figured you would have to run a FFIM because of the size of it.

Re: Project Lex

Decided to go a slightly different route with the IC piping. I have half of the Compressor side piping done and taped together ready for welding. Also have half of the TB side of the piping fabbed up as well. The bend coming out of the FMIC is uuugly, very sharp turn. Not ideal by any means, but it allows me to route it the way I want to, and plus that side will be changed once I switch to a different intake mani setup anyway so it's only temporary.
Here's pics of the compressor side piping I've mocked up so far. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305505555 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305505555 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305505555 |

Hmm I spy some Goodyear Eagle GT tires. Remember you do get free rotations at any Goodyear. (This is a hint that you should come up and give me a ride when this beast is running)

Handed the piping off to Momin (Speedfreak). He's going to weld it all up for me. Thanks again Mo!!!
Got to do a little bit today. Installed the braided replacement PS line. I don't think the old one was leaking anymore, but f-it I bought this thing so might as well put it on: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305602695 Decided next to start plugging stuff back in and putting the intake mani on. First I decided to make an EGR Block-off plate out of some scrap aluminum stock I had: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305602642 Putting the intake back on. Nice new intake gasket :) http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305602642 As she sits right now http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1305602642 |

Put the plenum on the runners. Nice new gasket :)
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306377980 Also I kinked the fuel rail feed line, so I've decided to just replace it and the stock fuel dampener with a direct -6AN push-lock setup. TNT had all the parts ready to rock for me! 12mm x 1.25 male fuel rail fitting 14mm x 1.5 female fitting attaches to stock line Straight and 90* -6an push-lock hose ends. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306377980 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306378516 Got some 1/2NPT x 5/8" barbed fittings for the Turbo Oil Drain setup. Figured this will keep it a cheap and simple drain setup. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306378856 Here's how she looks right now. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306377980 Goodhart you asked about turbo clearance, well here ya go. There is none :D http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306377980 |

LOL WOW!! Just curious, does a mk4 stock intake mani fit in the engine bay of one of these things? So if/when you do go forward facing, could that be an easy swap? Is Kerry still going to use his stock manifold? Or would it make more sense to go aftermarket? I have a buddy up here in St. Cloud that has made some pretty nice looking FFIM's for 2JZ's and 7M's too. Here is one http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e2...8/DSCF0067.jpg |
Re: Project Lex
No. The bolt pattern is just a hair different. Gotta get an na specific one which are stupid expensive. And is also why I may try to just make my own. But that all will come next year.
|
Re: Project Lex
ghey. I guess that would just be too easy haha
|
Re: Project Lex
Man it would be sooo nice for the intake mani to point out the other direction but if its gonna be crazy expensive to make it happen I say yea, def put that on the back burner...easy enough of a project once you have the rest of the car sorted.
|
Re: Project Lex
I thought I saw a company that was making a after market intake plenum that made the TB face forward. Can't remember who though. I think we had a NA Supra/turbo come in with one on it. I will try to hit him up for the name.
|
Re: Project Lex
Yeah that is a typical way people go since the plenum bolts to the runners. Just put a forward facing plenum on the stock runners. But with just the plenum, the cheapest one I've found is still around $800. Pretty ridiculous. So I may just try to buy some square aluminum tubing and plating, and just make my own and have someone weld it up for me.
But, again, I'm trying to change as little as possible which is why the stock one is staying on for now, with the stock throttle body. Trying to just change things 1 by 1 as much as possible. |
Re: Project Lex

Made the new Fuel Feedline which will bypass the stock fuel damper. Used -6AN black Aeroquip Push-Lock hose (my favorite push-lock hose) with black push-lock hose ends. I don't like the blingy SS Braided stuff. I like clean and subtle, so this is perfect. Plus it's way easier to assemble than SS Braided. The adapter fittings are blue because I simply could not find them in black, oh well. They are 12mm x 1.25 (fuel rail) and 14mm x 1.5 (stock fuel line) fittings. 21" of fuel line used.
http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306459316 Fitting installed in Fuel Rail: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306463492 Fuel line installed: http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306463492 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306463492 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306463492 Underneath the car where it attaches to the stock line near the firewall http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306463492 http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306463492 Got the Oil Drain Flange mounted on the turbo. That's another tight squeeze, so I think for now I'll just run a -10AN SS Braided drain line since it is so close to the turbo flange. Next year I may rethink the drain setup. http://mitsustyle.com/forums/attachm...1&d=1306463492 |
Re: Project Lex
Looking good. I was thinking what if we did a hard return line half way down and then below that manifold and turbo had a fitting welded on the hard pipe that would go to a braided AN line for some flex the rest of the way to the block?
