You guys are starting to sound like the Lotus club. Hell, I remember assembling my long block the night before I was heading for the shootout and realizing the shop I had do the work effed up the rings on one of the cylinders and I couldn't get new ones in time to go.

Something might stand in the way of making this, but it's looking good so far. I work well under pressure.

Nope, you might not screw the drain bolt on all the way and leak all your oil out during the cruise :P haha

Har Har, yuck it up! I'm trying to encourage people to have safe reliable cars for the cruise so they don't break and hold up the group or cause an accident.

Fun fact: a 1990 DSM is now *twenty* years old. Reliability is a bigger concern than ever!

You know I am just being sarcastic. I don't like broken cars on cruises as much as the next person (hell, I was broken at one point on one of them), but I wouldn't want someone not to go because they want to change brakes before and they work a lot or something and it's within 2 weeks of the cruise.

I'm still planning on hopefully swapping my fuel canister on my car this weekend if I have time before the cruise.

Or you could just do it now...

Do your oil change now and drive it for the next week to make sure it doesn't leak. Shane knows all about what oil leaks can do...

A week before going on our roadtrip this spring I changed the WRX oil and the Wix filter had a defective seal spewing oil all over the place. Shit happens, even when doing simple routine maintenance. Any last-minute maintenance items should be taken care of this weekend so you have a week worth of driving just to make sure there are no leaks, loose bolts, etc.

FINE! I'll do it next wednesday, that will give me over 120 miles on the oil change before the cruise.

^I thoroughly believe in shakedowns too.
Also me and the magic are going thru some tough times in our relationship and it takes time to make up after our disagreements.

My point, I believe in having your car thoroughly ready for the cruise and the 2 week rule is part of that, however some people and installs aren't that detrimental to the reliability of the car.
This small disagreement sounds like if someone broke down, say me or hill, or RLF with his blindfolded oil changes you guys would be spiteful and be pointing laughing at us, when I know thats not the case.
Also, shit happens and it could just happen on that weekend.

Good luck to all.

Blindfolded?? I'm an Asst Manager for Valvoline Instant Oil Change.... Pretty sure I know how to do a reliable oil change. I do 30+ a day without issue. Just saying.

Do it this weekend; no reason not to. A few days early won't fuck up your engine's oil interval, I promise.

We'll see, tuesdays or wednesdays are better for my to get my oil changed at my shop. Less busy, works better with my hours.

I'm saying they must think you are blindfolded if they freak out about oil changes.

All the smart ass comments are pretty lame. From a organizing standpoint, we dont want any issues like this to come up, so pushing the limits further by modding or doing work on your car before a 6 hour cruise one way is way too risky to me.

There is also a difference between changing your oil and replacing your turbo last minute (bryce). Common sense comes into play here as well.

SOrry, I'm just in a smartass mood and unless I can get a good couple of hundred miles on my car before the cruise we will be taking the honda.

(where did your sig come from)

Peter is right. If your car has issues you hold up the cruise for EVERYONE. As much as we all want to give you the middle finger and keep driving, we won't. That isn't what this group of people is about. But part what it is about is respecting each other and that includes you not being a dumbass and having your car fall apart on the cruise.

The one main reason I decided to take the Evo on the cruise and told Primo to take their time with my 1g.

Wanna bet? ;) Peter and I already discussed this today.

A freak failure or break-down is one thing, but I have no sympathy for someone who arrives with a hacked together setup, leaking fluids, untuned, or missing radiator fans.

That's what I was getting at. If you decide to drive your janky piece of junk 2 hours away from home and it breaks, that's your problem, but I'm sure we'd all stop to help someone if they blew a tire.

^ Agreed. You've had all summer to prep for a cruise, no reason to piece stuff together the week before.

Well call a tow truck for ya and see you in big D.
