Tom, as I stated before..that overflow tank needs a tube down into it, so when the car is shut off and the car cools down, it has a way to suck the fluid it previously spit into the tank back into the engine. If you don't have that recirc tube, you'll just end up filling and filling the can, and the car will then be empty.

Ok so two things that may be causing the car to seem to run hot.
a) The Coolant dump line from the turbo is coming in to the Thermo Housing right above the sensor.
b) I think the overflow tank is mounted upside down. (there are no markings on this summit catch can as to which end should be up and the overflow tank is empty but spits out coolant every time i stop.)

What do you guys think? it wasnt overheating. it was just running a bit hot at the slower speeds this time and would cool down when i cruise at higher speeds. right now i dont have a thermostat in.

The coolant drain goes where? post a picture. My old coolant drain went down to the hard line that ran along the front of the block, then to the oil filter housing.

This also. I would just go buy a new coolant overflow tank from mitsu. I think they wanted like $70 for one last time I checked though.

I might have a stock coolant overflow tank somewhere I'll go look for. Otherwise, I can make it pretty easily/modify yours tom.

LOL found out my problem with the coolant bottle. i had it attached to the top port when it should have been attached to the bottom port. here is what i have and the explaination. see post 3. http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/bolt...ed-11-6-a.html Should fix the coolent spitting problem and the bottle being empty problem. :)

Tom, I think I grasp what you are saying here, why don't you take a picture of how you have it hooked up so others can understand though.

here is the pic, Green Circle is the dump line from the turbo. Pink circle is where the coolant temp sensor is. The feed line is coming from the spout from the smaller main water pipe (by the throttle body)

Ok, so you have the upper line going to the tank, and the lower line feeding the turbo right? Do you have a pic of the overflow?

BTW, that link showed that the stock overflow cap fits perfectly onto a gatorade bottle, thats awesome

POST #3 mike. Read post 1 and that shows the coolent bottle i have, then read post 3 and realise the solution is there. I had it hooked to the top port and nothing to the bottom, when i should have had it on the bottom port and nothing on the top. When the coolant expands and drops some in there, it starts to fill up the bottle, then when it cools down and sucks it back in, the bottle will empty back down into the radiator.

The line feeding the turbo is coming off of the smaller tube on the water pipe, the one that goes across the transmission and towards the firewall. Pic attached. look where the intake mani is and that should tell you where the feed is coming from and i circled in pink.

Yikes, what a mess of hoses haha

I get what you are saying now that you pointed out which posts you were talking about. I didn't realize you had the same catch can in the linked thread.

Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project

yeah sorry about that.
yes it is a mess, but it works. I really think its just a false reading from the sensor due to the turbo dump. ill just look for another port to link into. and see what happens.

Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project

Yeah, the line coming from the water neck needs to go to the bottom of the overflow tank, otherwise it will just drain onto the ground (as you've already found out).

Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project

I believe there where a lot of misconceptions with him about that car, and I was mostly around before he got the shell you bought the motor with.

Does this thing still have the fuel cell in it tom? I just seen that in the other owners project thread. and that Moroso oil pan too.

HKSenilyks 05-12-2010 05:54 PM

Re: 1992 Eagle Talon TSI Project

The fuel cell was in a different 1ga shell, I know the person that owns it now and it still have the mounting bracket lines and an fitting if your interested. I believe its a ten gallon. The old sell was scarped at primo.
