Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

OK OK...one more part this spring! I just ordered a set of Zip Corvette polyurethane shifter bushings. Nothing crazy or fancy, just like the shifter base bushings on DSM's and Evo's.

http://www.zip-corvette.com/media/ca.../st-521_47.jpg

Of other interesting note, the C7 Z06 LT4 uses the same exhaust system as the Stingray/Z51 LT1 w/the dual-mode performance exhaust option. Right down to the same part numbers except the exhaust manifolds, which are cast stainless steel vs. cast iron (same design though). There goes any chance of the stock Z06 exhaust being an upgrade for the base and Z51 models. That tells you how well the exhaust system flows though. After the exhaust manifolds, the primary cat downpipes are 3.0", then the X-pipe transitions down to 2.75" after the secondary cats and continues through the axleback.

Can't go wrong with shifter bushings. And comforting to know the stock exhaust is pretty deng good as-is.

If you have ~450whp on the cruise that is roughly what I have so we will need to do some TnC fun!

Kracka 02-19-2015 12:40 PM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

I think 450whp Dynojet is fairly realistic...I'm down for some TnC action :D

Looks to be about the same width as the Z06.

Yuck, no fricking way, especially that color and those rimzzz. 2003 called, it wants its rice back.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Yeah, not a fan of the color or wheels, but the body kit is cool.

AwdGSX13 02-19-2015 02:53 PM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

If it was black(or a standard color for that matter) with some nice wheels it would be badass

I got the ported intake manifold installed this morning with a lending hand from my friend in town from Arkansas to pick up his Evo from Cobb. It took us 3 hours start to finish, including clean up and swapping out AFE air filters (replaced the ProDryS with the Pro5R).

What's up with the flashing police lights

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Is it something with the LED tail lights and the camera? Frames per second?

Looks awesome though!

Kracka 02-22-2015 06:17 PM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

LED's plus the frame rate is my guess, most C7 videos appear like that for some reason.

Halon 02-22-2015 06:21 PM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Most LED tails look like that in videos. Nice work on the mods!

Thanks. Unfortunately, the ported intake manifold will be coming off. Since the install I've heard a faint whistle on moderate acceleration. I initially thought it may be a slight leak, but I've heard from others that they experience the same thing after installing a ported intake manifold. It would be nice if things like this were disclosed beforehand rather than people not mentioning it until others have trouble. Luckily, I should be able to do the swap myself this time around in under 2 hours. Sticking with my goals: No compromises.

Ahh interesting on the flickering!

Thats crazy on the whistling, maybe just turn up the radio lol.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

I wonder if thats why the engineers didn't design the car with a ported manifold, cause of the whistle. Odd.

This made me think of whistle tips, that could get annoying fast.

This is the first time I've ever experienced any type of noise from a ported intake manifold, but it's also the first time I've done a N/A car or a plastic manifold. A few guys have some theories as to why the manifold does it, but I'm not going to dink around with it; I plan to just reinstall the stock manifold and not worry about it. I think I know what aspect of his porting it is causing it too but don't want to risk it by having anything done to my stock core.

About 30 miles on it so far...and yes, I'm ready to be rid of it  The first time I accelerated I was like WTF?!?!

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

You should throw it on the dyno before you switch back, just to see if the gains are even more than a couple hp.

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Haha regardless you can always switch out, but might as well test and compare things since you are doing that with all the other mods? Or did you not dyno after exhaust and whatever else.

Kracka 02-23-2015 02:22 PM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

I've only done direct back-to-back dyno testing on the ported/coated exhaust manifolds since that was part of my deal with MAP. Otherwise, I have a stock baseline dyno run @ Cobb and that's it.

YAY no more whistle! Stock intake manifold is back on.

How was the 6 weeks of whistling for you? The first 30 miles must not have been that annoying haha.

Can you even tell on the butt dyno?

Annoying as hell to be honest! I'm very glad it's off.

I never got retuned for the ported intake manifold since after the first test-drive I knew it would be coming off. Without proper retuning the ported intake manifolds show zero gains, so no, I did not feel any difference. I plan to eventually give the WeaponX ported intake manifold a shot since those are not supposed to have any adverse side effects, but he was taking too long and I wanted to have the car 100% for the cruise in two weeks.

I also reinstalled the AFE dry air filter too since the inside of my intake pipe already had a fine layer of oil and dust after running the oiled filter for only a few hundred miles when it was perfectly clean before after thousands on the dry.

Kracka 04-10-2015 10:56 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

...and got the ported intake manifold sold! That will be nice to free up a little garage space. Now, if only I could get my stock exhaust manifold cores sold to free up some attic space!

Kracka 04-27-2015 10:26 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

I just need to say, after this weekend, I could not be more impressed and happy with this car! Nearly 40 hours/2250 miles of seat time in 3 days, numerous jaunts over 150, including one to 170...and the car is just stable as a rock in everything but pouring rain/standing water! 26 MPG for the trip overall (including the cruise portion), and 29 average coming home from Iowa yesterday. The engine and transmission took a thrashing without even the slightest hiccup. I was able to stay on 93-octane the entire tire with only one exception, and that was a tank of BP 91 from Dubuque.

Halon 04-27-2015 10:41 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Gotta feel nice to be able to trust the car to do all that, and in general not even worry about it. I remember back in the day I used to drive my 2G to RRE and back from Arizona. It always made it, but the entire drive was like "do you smell that, did you hear that?" Nice to be able to just enjoy it I bet.

Kracka 04-27-2015 11:14 AM

Re: Meet GheyRay: Lower, Wider, Lighter!

Very much so. It's very comforting knowing a car is designed to do something and that no matter how hard I drove it on Saturday, it would get me home on Sunday :)

The factory oil cap just says DEXOS on it so I picked up this little guy on Rockauto for $13.
