Re: 2G auto S/A daily
keeping these things cool with a FMIC is a pain. My car was dead set at sitting at 219 all the way home from BIR I had to go back to stock fans last year to keep mine cool. The cheap slims I had wern't cutting it. I drove right past your place last night while I was picking up some tires for my other project. I almost called you to see if you were ready to do some WOT tuning but it was getting pretty late.

Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Sounds good just picked 2 up.
I feel better now that you said yours was at 219 I was driving home from Iowa from 1-5 am so I wasn't home Think ill be ready for wot tuning come Friday Wanna try to make rock falls Saturday. |

K ill keep ya posted.

Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Two bottles should be plenty. I would start by pulling the thermostat out to make sure that isn't a problem. It sounds like you have a major issue if it is getting that hot. That was with 1 fan working, right? If you had no fans, then I wouldn't get too worried about it.

If you go to the rock text me dude. I'd probably come watch if you went

Re: 2G auto S/A daily
I have an aluminum radiator and nice slim fans. I don't think that's the issue.
That would also cut into my t3 budget. Yeah ill have to see what's up as far as help I'm sitting at 811 for miles right now and still have to run to 694 and rice so ill change the oil and check the thermostat tonight. |

Re: 2G auto S/A daily
I work until 1030pm tomorrow.
But I wouldn't worry about T3 if the car is running too hot, also not all AL radiators are created equal that goes for fans too. I'm down to go to the track too. Want to see some deep 11s-10s with that thing. |
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
I bought a 180 stat so gonna throw that in while I drop the oil today. Should be at 900 miles when I get home today. And really has no major iissues/leaks since 100 miles.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
I have never had issues with mine running hot... ESPECIALLY with E85! Usually I have a hard time getting mine to warm up fully without beating on it in anything less than 80* weather.
I would definitely start with the thermostat. Something definitely doesnt seem right. Last year when we had a bunch of 100°+ days my car would barely make it to 200°. I have a 180° super stat in it and run 60/40 - coolant/water. If you go Sat, shoot me a text and maybe I'll fly up on the bike if its nice. |
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Sounds good. Ill let ya know if I'm gonna make it out there.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
I have a mitsu 168F stat. too if a reg. one doesn't cut it.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Ill let ya know. If not ill order a 160 from map.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
From what I've read 2g run alot hotter the 1gs due to the coolant running the opposite way or the location of the temp sensor. I freaked out the first time mine went over 200 but after researching I found its not that abnormal. I also have the ac condenser in still and a restrictive fmic. Sounds like it's in the right range for a stock thermostat. Hopefully the cooler one works out.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
I was constantly fighting to get my 1G to stay cool. A different (less dense) FMIC ended up helping a lot, but still was always a struggle. Lower temp thermostat, higher pressure rad cap, water wetter, fans always on, ducting, and the ETS FMIC (replacing a dense garrett core) I was finally able to get the car to stay more normal. Forget turning on the A/C though. That was probably one of my biggest complaints/annoyances with my 1G, just not overheating.

Re: 2G auto S/A daily
So far it hasn't gone past 210 so I think it's good now. Time will only tell though.

Re: 2G auto S/A daily
nice to see thats all it was.

Re: 2G auto S/A daily
New thermo tested before I put it in and worked fine. Car got up over 225 and tripped the light.
All this was done around after 9 so air temps should of been fine. I have no mixing of coolant and oil in either so not sure what to think yet. What's the best way to get bubbles out? I'm not sure I got them all out but that's really the last thing I can think of. Also for a sidenote. On my car it goes intercooler, fans pushing them radiator. Should I put the fans on the inside of the engine bay? |
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
best way i found is leave cap off and squeeze the lower rad hose. start car and leave the cap off turn the heater on full blast. when its fully warmed up replace the cap before turning the car off.
Inside engine bay seems better to me. pull cool air in to the bay and hot out. plus it should help cool that manifold. Do you have the fans wired for lo and hi together? |

Re: 2G auto S/A daily
I personally prefer a pull setup with a shroud. That way you aren't blocking any airflow into the radiator, and the shroud helps move air across all the radiator fins, not just the ones directly in front of the fan. I used to also setup the one fan closest to the manifold to be constantly on, that way it was always blowing the hot exhaust manifold air away.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Also a lot of people talk smack about aftermarket fans. I have one stock and one aftermarket. They are hooked up to the stock wiring. With the wiring I tied the positives together and then to my fans, and the negatives together and then to my fans, this way both my fans turn on for lo and hi.

Those things are awesome when trying to get all the air out of the system. |

Re: 2G auto S/A daily
ah looks much better than cramming a funnel in there like i did.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
When trying to remedy this when we took the first drive; we let the car sit turned on and let it warm up with a funnel in the tstat housing. The water kept sucking in and blowing back out. When it stopped I put the radiator cap on and turned the car off.
But the heater wasn't on and we didn't have a cool ass radiator funnel. |
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
So where do I find a cool ass funnel?
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Possibly the auto parts store. Or Ican get one from my mac guy ttoday for you if you want
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Tool guys sell them and i know they have them at most parts store usually for around $25 to $35.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Shawn's gonna borrow me his and I'm gonna buy one from his snap on guy next week.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
imho if u dont have one dont waste ur money. i andmany others have no problems getting the air out without a special funnel. but they are cool looking
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
It's not about the money it's about the mess. Ever since I used one at DB a few yrs ago I've wanted one. Thing works pretty slick.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
DSM cooling system is pretty straight forward, unlike some others. There really shouldn't be a need for said funnel. Did you use a new OEM Mitsu water pump on the rebuild? I had a car in once with this issue and I am trying to remember what it was. I want to say it was the wrong gasket on the water pump or something. It wasn't getting good coolant flow. 7 bolt head on a 6 bolt block not lining up coolant passages right? It was something like that.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
I have a 6 bolt head so should be no issues there. Gasket was new and water pump was just reused from my old motor. Only had 30k on it and looked fine.
Ill try and see if there's bubbles in the system then go from there. |
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Those funnels are the shit and was under $20 off the mac truck.
|
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Have one they work good. But love the vac one better. It is just an adaptor for the radiator and hook up shop air. It pulls all the air out of the system in 30sec. I use it all the time on buses.

Re: 2G auto S/A daily
So went out for a cruise with Shawn (his cars running) an Aaron. Got pulled over in FL for no front plate. Kinda funny cops like get your shit figured out and get a plate on it.
Anyways so my cooling issues are still there but we think we got it. Thanks to Aaron and a paper receipt we found out my fans are pulling in front of the radiator so really are not doing shit. Gonna swap wire tomorrow and them possibly throw on switch if I have time. Good to see Shawn's (4seasons69) car back on the rode and also the look on kids faces as we rolled past the forest lake beach parking lot. It was priceless. |
Re: 2G auto S/A daily
Not going to lie I for sure thought I was he one going to get pulled over lol.
Hopefully rewiring the fans take care of your cooling issues! They should I want to see this thing make some passes soon! |
