Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Head and FMIC look good swifty! Now get it on the car! Did you sell your SMIM too, or is that JMF Race(?) one going back in?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
JMF Race is going back on..
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Good deal! Get this thing back together for when that turbo setup shows up then man!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Workin on it! I am thinking the head, timing and radiator, upper ic pipe, and fuel system will all be done this week. Just waiting for the mani, then slap the turbo, mani, wg, and oil lines on, then have John work his magic, fabbing the lower ic pipe, and exhaust.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
sweet

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
An exhaust on your car? boo!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
downpipe..we will see if I run a full exhaust this year or not.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Looks awesome. I'm kinda jealous.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Don't be. Nothing but crap. Engine bay won't ever look half as good as yours ;)
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
What size IC piping is that swifty? It looks like 2.5 but i was thinking with the 42 wouldnt you want to be using 3"?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
The upper pipe is a 3", has been for over a year now. Lower pipe will be a 3.5" flared down to 3"

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Cleaned out the garage/work area today, since I had shit all over my tool box:
http://photos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._4543844_n.jpg This is how the day ended: http://photos-g.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos..._7614458_n.jpg Made a few calls to some people, and got some stuff taken care of. Head is now assembled, all plugs re-installed/capped off, water/t-stat housing on, intake manifold, all studs, fuel rail/injectors, etc all done. It's ready to drop on! I also installed the oil feed fitting on the turbo, and the exhaust housing for now, after running to get some 5/16"-18 bolts for it. Turbo is ready. Joe is wrapping the mani up, or is done (haven't spoken to him lately, as he's got other shit going on) but that should be shipped out to me by the end of the week, and get it mid next week I would think. I'm working on getting some clamps from Kevin from his work, and then I need the flanges for the exhaust dp and the lower ic pipe. I also need to remove, tuck and pound open the opening for the lower ic pipe so a 3" pipe can fit! ARG! Oh well. I also am trying to figure out how the oil cooler will mount up, or I'll just put it back between the radiator/fmic again. Haven't decided. Anyway, that's it for now! |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
sweet looks like its coming together slowly and after next week it should eb game on/
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Sound like you're doing a lot of the same things I am on my car.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
You're making progress, keep it up! And no selling important shit like turbos and engine parts between now and when it's tuned.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Lol, as I stated, turbo was for sale for me to MAKE money on it. But, as of right now, no bites, so it's going on the car.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
This thing is sick i cant wait to see some finished pics of the bay!!!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Lookin' good man! I might have to steal your wheels one night though. :p
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Update: It was rather nice out, so I opened the garage, cranked the music, and put my head down. I ran into a few hang-ups here n there, but got past them. by the time I was done, I ran outta things to install. Head is assembled, lifters, rockers, cams installed, cam angle sensor, gears, timing belt, vacuum lines, fpr, return line, fuel filter, and new lines made for that, and installed, catch can setup, upper ic pipe, tstat lines and wiring, fuel rail, injectors, clips, wiring, sensors, radiator hoses, etc etc etc. Basically, I am at a stand still, and ran outta parts.

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Yeah buddy! Looks great! Nice work!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
awesome, good luck man, you might make the 15th after all?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
I certainly hope it all works. I found another cometic hp hg I had, still sealed in the bottom most area of the bottom drawer in my toolbox..talk about lucky! So, it went together faster then I thought, because I didn't need to buy a new one. I hope it seals well enough after being copper sprayed, and I had to pull out...4 studs to get the washer down around them, for the headstuds, because the springs/seats are a lot beefier then before. The shim is also like 2-4 times thicker then stock. If this motor setup doesn't rev, I don't know how else to fix it. I over analyze things too much, but whatever..
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Take a picture and show us the headgasket you wanted to reuse.....
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
LOL, already threw it out, to force myself not to reuse it. I can take a pic of the sticker that came with the cometic though!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Looking good!
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
lookin good man. when my cousin heard the car, he told me it sounded pretty mean. hopefully it'll ride even meaner ;)
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Looking good! A trick I always do is that before you put the head down on the studs, put the washers down in the holes where they belong. It makes it more of a pita to get on, but makes it easier, since you don't have to pull the studs.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
true, I wasnt thinking. It was hard holding the head and intake mani and dropping it down on the car, by myself, leaning over the car. But, I got it. I just hope it holds together.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
As long as you got the studs good and tight again before you put the nuts back on, it should be fine.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Ya, I just get anxious. Did I torque things correctly, is this done right..will this leak, etc. I dwell too much, but I am a perfectionist at times, so I check and recheck a ton too.
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Come on Swifty spill it, you did reuse the gasket and dont want to admit it!
How many people have an unused cometic headgasket that they completely forgot about! |
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
um..me? When you acquire shit over time, and have a full toolbox with a "junk drawer" you find shit you didn't know you had, like this, or the coils I had, and like 30 used spark plugs, and other gaskets. You trying to call me out or something?
|
Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Lol I am I am!
Did you get your oil cooler mounted? |

Re: Swifty's never-ending project thread!
Will those speakers fit the front doors on talon? Mine are blown.
And no, I still need to figure out a bracket for the oil cooler. |

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6280200_n.jpg Finish welding/porting today, and then shipped to my house tomorrow..yay! He ran into issues, and scrapped the second WG idea, so it's taking longer then expected.. |
